windows 98/2000 on Pentium 4 M

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Sat Jan 21, 2017 4:45 am

how well does windows 98 and 2000 work on the Pentium 4 M? has anybody used one? what are your experiences?

I've never used any computer with a Pentium 4 or Pentium 4 M so I don't know... i've used a pentium 3 with windows 98 but was too young to really know how it was....

For the most part P4 mobile cpus will only be marginally faster than PIII cpus, unless you get the highest clocked versions. But be prepared to turn your laptop into a great blow torch  . Either way, they should run nicely on 2000/98.

I can't say anything about 98, but my A31p runs W2K and it's a thing of beauty IMO. No issues whatsoever as long as you don't expect a modern web browsing experience.

My $0.02 only...

From somebody who runs two A31p on WinXPP SP3 I can attest to the fact that it's as slow as molasses in a Maine winter when it comes to browsing sites heavy with Java and Flash using Firefox. I use the system at work for basic C++ programming, light document creation and simple web access (like to this forum). The system at home functions as a light media server, file sharing and occasional .ISO burning. I don't believe that I've ever run W2K on one and for sure have not used W98 on an A31p.

That's my nickel's worth... :)
