Does anyone know of a list of ThinkPads with SIM slots?

AFAIK most of T and X series have them but selected subset only is WWAN ready (have built-in antennas). You can use PSREF to get exact models.

Why? Can't you use a phone hotspot? Also with exceptipn of the newst ones, are 3G which is useless nowadays.

I used to think that too, until I realized that my phone plan permits only 2GB/month of tethering or mobile hotspot. I don't think there are phone plans in the US that include unlimited tethering or hotspot. But on a SIM-equipped tablet such as my Microsoft Surface 3 or the Thinkpad 8 I used to have, I get unlimited cellular data from my plan.

Some 3G devices get HSPA+ from some networks, which is actually quite fast. 2G is useless however.
