T series Vs L series

I've been into ThinkPads for awhile and know the L series isn't as tough as the T series but what would make you choose a T series over an L series or the other way around?

I'm wanting to get into a newer machine at some point in the future but I'm waiting for the broadwell machines to drop to around $200 before I upgrade (for parts price).... When I do upgrade would it be best to go with an L450 or T450 or just wait for a price drop on the T/L460? I'd like to have a graphics card 8gb ram and a low end quad core cpu but did the T/L450 have the GT 730M or 940MX graphics card? I may just wait for the price of the T/L460 with graphics card to come down around $200 if it is the first year for the 940MX graphics card

The L-series was like the R-series, but worse. The L series are built like junk. Take a Best-buy laptop, drop it, and that's about the structural stability of the L-series. They are also thicker, and heavier. Just spend the money and get a nice T machine.

That's what I was thinking..... I've never bought an L series so didn't know how they would be... All I know is I may just change my mind and go with a w541 even though I don't really like 15" machines just for increased graphical horsepower for a reduced cost.... I'm still gonna see the benefits of the k1100 and k2100 over the GT 730M and 940MX and deside if the T450/T460 is better for my needs or go with a W541 if it gives me more performance for my needs.... I'm looking to only play older video games so even the GT 730m is more than enough but getting the most powerful graphic for what I can afford is going to be even better

If you have a mishap with one or the other, it's probably just bad luck more than anything else. I don't see what a T450 or L450 would offer you over the T440s or T440p you've got now, other than trackpoint buttons, but that's fixable if you're inclined.

Ok so the T450 doesn't have the 940MX card in it? Really the only reason I'd upgrade is for a better Nvidia graphics card... Lol

Just curious but do you ABSOLUTELY need portablility? A custom built PC will be about the same price and give you a much better experience.

Yup I do need portability I go between home and aunt's house and places so much it be impossible for me to have a desktop plus I don't have room at home for one even if I didn't need portability... I'm trying to stay around $300 after parts

If you don't want to spend too much money on your old-new machine I'd suggest looking for an nicely speced L460 with AMD graphics card. As someone said before L serie used to be junk up to L440/L540. Since the 2015 build quality has been improved and to be honest at this moment its a really nice piece of equipment for the price you have to pay for it. I have had L450 and L560 and I must say when you compare it with its on class competitors like mid-class ProBooks and Vostros/3000-series Latitudes, Lenovo solution seems to be really reasonable choice. In past year I did had 2 T460 and 1 T460p that I sold already. Yet I'm using another (3th) T460 and still I cannot understand why someone may think that T-series is more durable/robust than L460 these days. Both solutions and thin, light and fragile - as soon as you use extended force they'll break in no time. And the glass-fiber-reinforced-BLA-BLA talk won't change it. If you need backlit keyboard, rubber coating and minor performance increase (HQ cpu and 940MX) you should go for T460p, if that's not necessary L460 should be your option.

PS. There's another option you may want to consider - ThinkPad Yoga 14 with 5th gen CPU and nVIDIA 840M. Its light, durable, have an backlit keyboard what's more it is fairly cheap. Maybe this may solve your problem . I do own one with integrated graphic and I must say I am impressed with it.

Ya... The graphics card sucks in all ThinkPads but I really don't want to spend $2000 on a used alienwear 13 with similar specs to a $500 ThinkPad... I may check out the ThinkPad Yoga 14! Is the CPU socketed or non-upgradable? And do they have dual and quad core options? I've been wanting to try a ThinkPad Yoga

I run a T series as my main box for a very good reason over a cheaper model. The T series are better built, more durable than the cheaper lines. My old box is a T 410, and hope to get a T420 or possibly a X 201 (another good sturdy laptop). I have spasticity and muscles with a mind of their own. I am hard on laptops, can't help that. ThinkPads are very durable and rugged in better models compared to most business class laptops. Though the best Dell Latitudes are OK boxes.
