Re: Original List Prices of IBM (and some Lenovo) era ThinkPads
What did you guys really learn? That laptops got more expensive for the same specs?
Modified T470 to look like TP Anniversary Edition; TP 25; E550; T540p; wants a T420 or P1 to see what's good.
Re: Original List Prices of IBM (and some Lenovo) era ThinkPads
Laptops used to be very expensive. I have a few T20/21 etc. in the garage and as noted, they are $3,699 for a base config. As much as $5k for a big build.
Cut to say 2010 and a Edge 14" was like usd $500.

Anyone realize that TWBOOK.pdf has a bunch of the prices of early Thinkpads?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Wow! Using the listed price since I don't have the original configurations, I must have spent over $18,000 on new ThinkPads back in the old days. All were paid list price by my employer, who couldn't understand my fascination with these ThinkPads, but, since I had my own budget, I had the freedom to spend on what I wanted.

Re: Original List Prices of IBM (and some Lenovo) era ThinkPads
I bought my ThinkPad T530 with a price tag of ¥6000 (roughly $1000) back in 2012.
Original Specs:
i3-2328m 2.2Ghz
2GB RAM single channel
NVS 5400M (that saved my butt for futureproof as everything else can be upgraded)
1366x768 display
6 cell battery
standard Bluetooth + Wi-Fi bgn
500gb 7200rpm hdd
basically everything but the hard drive and gpu are base spec

Re: Original List Prices of IBM (and some Lenovo) era ThinkPads
I'll go through and add these, although I think I sourced some early prices from the TW pdf's - sometime since I looked at this need to focus on total accuracy (although think most are accurate but you can always get better!). Will revisit as the newer stuff is very incomplete as well.Anyone realize that TWBOOK.pdf has a bunch of the prices of early Thinkpads?
Can Bill make this universally editable? Then all can improve... would be far better!

Was just llooking at the 700C specs, 10.5-inch active-matrix color LCD, this may well be the first active matrix screen laptop? I always assumed it was DSTN!

Thanks. I found it using a search and it did not indicate that it was. At least I did not see any indication.
