New affordable & compact Lenovo ThinkPad L13 & L13 Yoga laptops with Intel 10th gen CPUs announced
https://www.notebookcheck.net/New-affor ... 982.0.html
Logically, the ThinkPad L13 is the direct successor of the ThinkPad L390, while the ThinkPad L13 Yoga is the follow-up to the ThinkPad L390 Yoga.
On the flip-side, it seems like the ThinkPad L13 line loses it's upgradeable RAM capability, as Lenovo will offer 16 GB of soldered memory as the maximum amount of RAM. The older ThinkPad L390 models could feature up to 64 GB of RAM, thanks to the two RAM slots.

Nice reply on the article.
Very disappointing Lenovo is going this route with the L Series. I wonder when they are going to ditch matte displays for glossy entirely.
I didn't care much for the L series, after associating it with an SL400c, one of the worst laptops I've worked on.
Anyways, they seemed to be a better featured E Series. Additionally it seemed that the L380 Yoga was a better buy than the X380 Yoga unless you absolutely required a thinner model.
I've been out of the ThinkPad news loop, I wonder what they will call the successor to the T490 or what they will remove...

If these new model names are any indication, the T490 successor will be the T15, then differentiated with a Generation number like the X1 Carbon.

Lenovo matte displays are usually terrible garbage (typicaly 55% sRGB only or 700:1 contrast only or annoyning response time over 60 ms) that would be acceptable in a 500 Euro laptops, but not 2000+ ones. For me it is the main reason, together with the stupid 6-row keyboard layout having Home/End and PgUp/PgDn keys unclustered, to ignore all new ThinkPads.

1. For the other side of the coin, here is a user (yours truly) who *prefers* a matt LCD screen.
~We recently bought the X1 Extreme with the 4k IPS screen (the all singing and all dancing one), which is glossy (no matter what they try to call it). Glossy reflections are distracting for our office work. (The movies on this glossy 4k screen is gorgeous by the way!)
~If we have a chance to do this all over again, we would have bought a *matt* screen version of X1 Extreme instead !
2. We also wish for 7-row keyboard, like the T410 which we also have (and miss everyday).
3. We also wish for a 16:10 ratio (or 3:2 ratio) LCD screen, like our T410 (and miss everyday).

That's why I don't work in an office I am pretty satisfied with the MateBook 13 screen, despite of it is glossy. The 3:2 aspect ratio, 2K resolution (200 PPI), good contrast, 100% sRGB coverage and non-annoying response time is exactly what I wanted and I can't complain given I got it for 790 Euro only Look what garbage Lenovo use in much more expensive models

That is a daft, murky system!
It is already difficult enough to follow the X1 Carbon, with many varieties of how to describe its generation.
Those 'generations' are a horrible mish-mash of possibilities and causes for errors/mistakes!
Apparently Lenovo's stupidity seems to have no end!
[no indication at all], G1, 1G, Gen1, 1stGen, 1st Gen, First Gen, 14", i5, i7, E, Extreme.... to name but a few varieties as already seen on eBay.
And we all know how 'well-informed' and accurate those sellers are!

Review sites also use the year number instead of the generation one so you have either Gen7 or 2019 model. Anyway, I am not interested in ThinkPads anymore (unless Lenovo changes the super stupid 6-row keyboard layout that splits navigation keys and stops to use crappy displays in premium models), so I don't care.

It's just another thing they copy from Apple.

Six row keyboards have been very common on all 16x9 small screen (14 inches or less) laptops. I find them adequate for most uses. Even my LogiTech keyboard for my ThinkCenter is six rows with numeric keypad including navigation keys.
If you have such a laptop, use a dock and keyboard for more intensive office use.
The screen and Intel integrated graphics on my X1 laptop are very good. Windows 10 driver support for Intel is excellent.

Yes, but the layout where PgUp/PgDn and Home/End keys are split to the opposite sides of the keyboard is just stupid. There are better layouts having these four keys clustered vertically on the right side, for example HP x360. I'd even prefer to have them [Fn]-ed on cursor keys, my MateBook 13 have it, but ThinkPad keyboard doesn't have it as an alternative layout either (unlike HP or Microsoft Surface). The only "fix" is to get the 15" model with numpad and use it in non-NumLock mode.

Yeah, but since even the 12.5" 16:9 X220 uses a 7-row, it surely proves it's possible, but the touchpad size suffers. Some people would prefer the bigger touchpad, some would prefer the 7-row. TP25 clearly showed that on a 14" it's possible even without any sacrifices, more so on 15.6". The point is that Lenovo doesn't give its customers a choice anymore. It feels that it's more important to have 35 different models which are all almost identical, than to have a couple of models with 7-row keyboards to bring true diversity.

Given the number of corporate customers who prefer trackpoint over the touchpad I am surprised the trackpoint is still there. Soon or later it'll disappear anyway.
7-row layout was perfect, but my point is that the Lenovo 6-row one is extremely stupid compared to other brands. Even a 150 Euro slow-laptop has better keyboard layout, except the power button.

I turn the touchpad off. Trackpoint or Bluetooth mouse works best for me.

I also use Bluetooth mouse as a replacement of missing trackpoint, but slowly getting into the use of big touchpad as well.

New Lenovo ThinkPad E14 & E15 embrace thinner design at the expense of one RAM slot
The ThinkPad E490 and ThinkPad E590 were rather chunky (thickness: 19.9 mm), so the thickness has been reduced to 17.9 mm (ThinkPad E14 aluminum version) / 18.9 mm (ThinkPad E15). One change that comes along with the thickness reduction is the integration of the keyboard into the chassis (bottom loaded keyboard), making it harder to change the keyboard. Also, Lenovo updated the Fingerprint sensor by integrating it into the power button, a first for the ThinkPad line.
Oh yes, 2 mm thinner laptop is definitely better
