There are only 13 files in the Js folder each 1KB in size. Where are these thousands of files I'm supposed to be seeing???

I refuse to use chrome. Boss lady uses it and complains of slowdowns occasionally.

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
I'm of the firmly held opinion that Google Chrome is one of the largest mistakes ever made. It was responsible for killing off my favorite browser (Opera 9-12) and is currently chipping away at the only viable alternative in Mozilla Firefox.

Mistakes? From whose point of view? It gave Google a huge control over web standards and tons of easily accessible customer's personal data, both of which made them a ton of money. Apparently it gave many users something they had wanted, otherwise it would not have gained such a market share.

You don't have to use it. You also don't have to use google itself or gmail.
If you do use it then Clear ALL cookies, etc Daily. with something like ccleaner.

That's kinda unavoidable, especially since reCAPTCHA is a Google product.

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
You can save logins in Firefox, id & pw. I won't save a login in either internet extorter or chrome, only Firefox. You can also designate specific cookies to be "saved" in ccleaner, and it also has an intelligent scan to not clear cookies where you have specifically noted the site to "remember you" or "keep you logged in". With those two options I can clear everything else in a few seconds and keep my saved logins and "remembered" cookies. This site, the CLC sites, and some others have other saved logins in Firefox and / or designated to be saved in ccleaner. You would be amazed at what cookies ccleaner will show you are lurking on you system. Ccleaner can be set for other browsers as well.dr_st wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 9:35 amI'm logged in anywhere between 10 to 20 webforums + mail accounts + personal websites on my computers. You have to go through the cookie list one time in ccleaner and designate the ones you want to save. After that it remembers those.
Once in a while it sneaks in an unwanted site to the "saved" list, like live.com which I never use, but sometimes gets stuffed in from a ms web site. I just scan the list and remove any unwanted ones.

There are some apps / extensions that also do fine grained cookie management (keep vs flush) if so inclined.

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
So should we get the ccleaner pro (payware), or the new ccleaner browser?
Can we use just the ccleaner browser to do what you have described below?

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
CCleaner? What is this? 1999?
As far as cookies, there are plug-ins (for Firefox I am sure, no idea about Chrome[-ium]) as I don't use that) which will remove them automatically per your settings (upon closing of tab or browser, or some time, etc.). I am using Cookie AutoDelete for example.
Of course that is just one of many attack / privacy leaking surfaces. JavaScript being another big one, unfortunately an ever growing portion of "modern" websites will not even load without it any more. I use uBlock Origin and I can recommend that even to non-technical people. Of course, investing a little time in learning some of its more advanced functionality will pay bigger dividends. I actually eventually got to the point of adding uMatrix in addition (but remember to walk before you run). There are some more (in addition to some internal about:config settings), but those are the main ones. For those who are interested, there is luckily a lot of information about this around the web. But you will need to do some research (this is where most people fail).
I don't know how to say this without sounding bleak, so I am just going to say it. I have been following these sorts of things for quite a long time, and the situation with the "modern web" has gotten quite out of hand. Web browsers are so complicated nowadays as to be almost complete operating systems in their own right. I think it's telling that huge corps with lots of resources like Google, Microsoft, et. al. have decided to pool resources and develop a single browser engine between all of them, rather than each going it alone (like they used to). Which leaves Firefox / Mozilla. I am still hanging in there, but only because there still are no real, viable alternatives IMO (and believe me, I keep looking). Unfortunately our heroes are competition to Google in name only at this point, deriving almost all of their operating income from the financial sponsorship of their so called "competitor." Which in reality is just a way to keep them impotent / ineffective (not that they need much help it seems these last years) whilst allowing Google to avoid anti-trust concerns relatively cheaply (for them). It's all quite a mess I'm afraid, but I calls em like I sees em.
Above mess is why I have seriously become interested in what is coming to be known as the "small web." Protocols like Gemini (new) and Gopher (old) and various F/LOSS and de-centralized alternatives like PeerTube and many, many others. I also self-host a lot of my own services. Since I am doing that anyway, I offer them also to close friends and family, but there are very few takers. It's sad, really. Therefore in the end, the problem is not "Google" (or whoever) the problem is people. If there wasn't Google, there would be some other company, etc... Very, very few people seem to really care about privacy / F/LOSS / de-centralization. I have been preaching it for years, mostly I don't bother any more as it largely falls upon deaf ears. For those (very few) who do show interest, I am happy to make myself available.

Say what you want but ccleaner is fast, doesn't get in the way and allows you to specify which cookies to keep.
I haven't set the browsers to delete all cookies on exit because I have some saved PWs, including this site. I don't want them gone.
And, I'm pretty sure that thee built in browser delete on exit, Especially Chrome's, will NOT delete their own cookies.

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
I kid because I love (no homo).
Most of my joshing is about using "Freemium" software. There is almost no need to any longer, with very good F/LOSS alternatives almost always existing (including, in this case).
The browser plug in does its work automatically in the background on an ongoing basis (therefore speed doesn't really matter, although I certainly never noticed any sort of slowdown).cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 8:54 pmccleaner is fast, doesn't get in the way and allows you to specify which cookies to keep.
I haven't set the browsers to delete all cookies on exit because I have some saved PWs, including this site. I don't want them gone.
Of course both white and black lists are available. There are actually quite a number of configurable options.
The problems in Chrome go waaaay deeper than cookies. In fact, Chrome is actually not "a browser" so much as it is "Google spyware, with a browser front-end."cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 18, 2021 8:54 pmAnd, I'm pretty sure that thee built in browser delete on exit, Especially Chrome's, will NOT delete their own cookies.

All good things are Wild and Free.
What is free software and why is it so important for society?

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
I suggest look at these
1] The Classic Browser
https://theclassictools.com/
Discussion- (dev name Get Real! ) - https://www.cyprus-forum.com/cyprus45383.html
2] Web Browser (Palemoon fork ) - needs help for more devs
https://git.nuegia.net/webbrowser.git/
Or use Palemoon with umatrix and ublockOrigin for time being
or ungoogled Chromium - https://chromium.woolyss.com/ (Marmaduke)

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
In my opinion , Palemoon better/faster now, as latest UC from woolyss freezes/hangs without loading common websites , esp with Ublock Origin active
Palemoon still works fine for me, and Umatrix mod and/or UBO legacy still work,

Re: Google's Chrome bloatware revealed
I thought I was the only one seeing recent random crashes. Wonder why. Gotta look at PM again.
I just hate shifting between browsers as it takes a bit of time to get things how I want them. Esp MIGRATING things as THEY ARE! without these restrictions.
