Question on Thinkpad BIOS discrete graphics disable on P53, P73, and X1 Extreme gen2

#1 Post by edwardOR » Mon Jun 29, 2020 7:05 pm

Hey guys! Great to have found you here. I'm glad there are still real forums around, not just subreddits.

Anyway, I'm looking at buying a P53, P73, or X1 Extreme gen2, except I want to be able to run OpenBSD on it occasionally without the dGPU enabled, via a BIOS setting. Do you guys know if any of those machines have that setting? I know they have hybrid and discrete only modes, but I'm looking for integrated only. OpenBSD just doesn't know how to handle Nvidia GPUs.

If not, and I know this is a thinkpad forum, but does anyone know of a non-thinkpad laptop that has that feature?

Thank you for any and all help.

In BIOS/Config/Display/Graphics Device they have only two options: Hybrid Graphics or Discrete Graphics.
Hybrid should do it.

Not sure if it works, but how about:

1. As RBS suggested, in BIOS/Config/Display/Graphics Device they have only two options: Hybrid Graphics or Discrete Graphics.
Select Hybrid Graphics.

2. Then goto [Device_Manager]>>[Display_Adapter],
and then disable the graphics GPU there.

Would this work to disable your discrete graphics GPU within Windows 10 ?

(Please help to report back your findings; we are interested in this as well!)
