IBM 765D Worth Anything to Collectors?
IBM 765D Worth Anything to Collectors?
I have this from work around 1999. Worked until they removed the hard drive.
It has a nice "Port" carry bag, floppy, extra battery, manuals, looks very complete
except for the hard drive.
Is this worth anything?
Any known collectors on here that I should contact?
Thanks, Pete B.

I am sure it would make a nice showpiece or a retro gaming device this 765D. My own storage is full and I'm across the Atlantic but I hope you find a welcoming new home for this bit of computing history.

post a for sale or free ad in the marketplace..
for sale or free is up to you..
the 765 was a transitional model between the 760 series and what came after and retains the unusual attempt at a tilt up keyboard..

Re: IBM 765D Worth Anything to Collectors?
Was the 765 the last 700 series to have that tilt up keyboard that back tilted up to reveal the three bays? My 760 has it, but I never saw a 765 or 770 up close. I used to tilt the back of that keyboard up all the time when using it.
If it was the last, then what did the 770 have?
The only issue I see with the OP's system is that if the HDD caddy / enclosure, etc. is missing, those are VERY hard to find. You can find a blank HDD anywhere, but Not that enclosure.

The 765 is indeed the last with the tilt-up keyboard. It's essentially an 760XL/XD with a slightly larger chassis to fit the 13.3 inch screen. IIRC the 770 is the first with a DVD drive.cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 08, 2020 5:03 pmWas the 765 the last 700 series to have that tilt up keyboard that back tilted up to reveal the three bays? Regarding the enclosure, you can open up a stock 760 caddy and put in a regular 2.5" IDE HDD, though you're limited to drives below 8GB, unless you have another old laptop where you can install a dynamic drive overlay on the HDD before installing it on the 765.

Re: IBM 765D Worth Anything to Collectors?
What's even more rare is the HDD adapter to put an HDD instead of the optical drive. I think that's the place. There were three bays across under the keyboard. I think it was from left to right, Ultrabay (CD FDD HDD or batt), battery (only) and primary HDD (only).
On the 770 series, the ultrabay was on the right side, sort of like the 600 systems, but it wasn't the same ultrabay.
