LFO, I am sure when you get your hands on your new laptop these posts will all fade away. I used to get mad tracking mine with the UPS tracking service, seems like sometimes it would go backwards. Oh well the days went by, tried not to think about it and "blam" there it was one day.

Hey LFO, calm down man .... I know it's tough I'm also in same boat as you are. anyways ... I think it was your first post and nobody said "welcome to you" before they started this all hot conversation.

so Would say sorry about all this .... and welcome to thinkpads community.

Now back to the topic.

Guru, your comment about Dell, I had a dell 600m before it was stolen in march this year. unaware of heating issues I felt near LCD it was getting hot and I called dell customer service, which is supposed to be one of the worse customer service. but surprise They sent me a new laptop, and a return label to return old laptop in 10 days. they didn't charge me anything.

I had this 2687Q2U which IBM decided to exchange .. had so many issues and I insisted coz changing virtually everthing in a 15 days old laptop wasn't right for me. I can't live without a computer coz I've to do office work, they placed another order and charged my credit card again. (they will credit back my card when they receive old thinkpad). till here story was ok.... (but see the service difference)

another thing, no doubt thinkpads are superior incomapre to Dell laptops but still how far thinkpads will go if all of you start having problem like I had with this laptop.

After this order was placed it showed packing in 2 days, I was very happy but in next two days status changed to 2 weeks ..... after two weeks status changed to backordered. finally it was shipped on 10/23 after a month delay.

Now stucked with UPS and customs. here is what I see everyday, don't know when it will be delivared.

by the way I think bird flu is spreaded from live stock not from laptop.....

For those who are happy that paid for UPS ground and got next day Service, FYI there is no ground service between aisa and US. it's international Express. and IBM or lenovo laptops are always shipped with this service regardless of you paid for ground or didn't pay for any thing.

And for those of you blaming the US gov, you're obviously not paying attention. Lenovo should be able to ship a package in such a way that it can get to me in the amount of time they said it would. DHL packages have been arriving regularly from Lenovo only UPS has this problem.
Usually parts/laptops for repair are shipped with DHL next day service they come from IBM warehouses within United states. so there are no customs or government related clearance required.

I think alot of these sorts of issues are UPS's fault. They are not very effective at clearing things through Customs, it seems, and it's a reputation they have.

Furthermore, it's fairly difficult to get proper advice from them - I've tried before, and it took several bounce throughs to get the information I needed to ship a large item from my home in the US to the UK, where I am currently studying. For a $100 shipment, I believe they could do better, especially since I would not have to pay 17.5% VAT on the item, IF they could handle the customs right.

I have a large suspicion that they could not - so I'm having the item personally brought to me, via a visiting parent.

Ok.. The T42 I ordered early last week, and was supposed to ship today (11/01) now has an "estimated ship date" of 12/05/05.

I'll likely cancel it.

(By the time the machine ships, it will be obsolete, and I'll probably be able to get the same deal on ebay for $1000 less.)

Their advertising about being the "customs clearing and supply chain champ" is laughable. They are certainly not changing the minds of anyone who has ever used UPS. I go out of my way to avoind them when I ship anywhere, and I'll even pay extra when making a purchase to get my package via FedEx or DHL. I buy often from newegg and I was quite disappointed when they changed most of their "saver" rates to UPS from FedEx. The only shipper worse than UPS in my experience is FedEx Ground which is sub-contracted out and is not even under the control of FedEx.

So you'd be happy with a soon-to-be obsolete machine if you had it delivered today? lol Or is it simply that you'd enjoy parting with that $1000 premium to get thirty days of use out of the soon-to-be obsolete ThinkPad prior to 12-5-05?

I think the ability to track shipments has officially driven all of us ThinkPad fans crazy. lol

Yeah.. Its sorta like buying bananas. They go bad sooo fast, you just want to get your hands on a ripe one. (Fwiw, I was being a bit sarcastic earlier.)

Actually, my concern is that the sweetspot model will be discontinued. E.g. do the current crop of T43s have bluetooth and FPR? One model seemed to have the FPR, but not all. Do I need it? Probably not.

Btw, here's an update to that T42 H6U order... I just got an email saying it has shipped. That's a shock. No update on the status page yet, though.
Shucks.. I was just talking myself into ordering a T43 w/ the $149 "special price" DDR2 1GB memory stick.

OK, I think this has gone on long enough. Say good-night, guys, and try not to have multi-page threads about shipping issues every day. It's getting repetitious and boring. Ranting about it here only raises everyone's blood pressure.

Oh, yes, and keep it out of the T forum altogether. It's busy enough.
