Does the Pixel bug you?

#1 Post by thinkkart » Fri Dec 09, 2005 1:02 am

My brand new thinkpad T43 had a dead pixel and i got it exchanged. The second one also had a dying pixel, which intermitantly glows green and irritates me. The fan makes a weirdy noise. Does the pixel problem happen for a new one?. Now i am confused to again go for an excnange as it takes time and more over i lost the trust that i may not get a better one.

Did any one face the pixel problem ??? Please Advice.

No, NEVER!

It is my opinion that with current techniques manufactures should be able to produce perfect screens… so no I would not take it.

I rma’ed my 24” Dell tft (stil costs 1300 euro’s here in the EU) 4 or 5 times for pixel defects.

If I pay premium… I expect noting less… and that it is.. so RMA!

I have worked with screens with pixel defect, and no I could not get used to it, I kept staring to the bloody red or green live pixel… and that annoys me.

Well, it is often assumed that the manufacturing techniques used today are defect-free; quite the opposite rather. Take a look at this page

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_Pixel_Error

There is a certain threshold that most TFT makers shoot for, it would take quite a few defective pixels for a manufacturer to actually consider the TFT LCD Defective. Now you can send it back in the 20-day Period to IBM/Lenovo, but it isn't a valid "Defect Reason" per se under the Warranty. I have used some LCDs with dead pixles and I have gotten used to it. My T43 screen, however, is dead pixel free. :)

So, you can get used to them if you want to; or you can repair/replace the TFT LCD. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Here is what IBM has to say on this.

Apparently, unless you have 5 or more dead pixels, you are out of luck.

You were lucky to get an exchange on the first one: I suspect that they did so because you were still in the 30 day "we take it back, no questions asked" period. If you are now outside 30 days, I suspect that your next talk with them will go very differently ( along the lines of "tough luck" ).

I have 2 bad pixels on mine :( But I bought it through a third party vendor so I couldn't exchange it. I didn't know about Bill's site back then.

It annoyed me to no end until I got a Dell 1703FP display which has no bad pixels. Since that is my primary workstation display the bad pixels on this machine don't bother me much anymore.
