Not sure if this is already widely known, I for one have always thought that customs were searching for things like chemical agents and so forth, but i guess counterfeit merchendise is a bigger problem than I imagined it to be. An interesting read none the less.

It's an interesting article, but I'm not sure how anyone buying direct from Lenovo is impacted.

There's no point to Lenovo "counterfeiting" a Thinkpad. I'm not even sure a manufacturer can "counterfeit" it's own product.

Whether there's an indirect impact in that the government may need more customs inspectors I don't know.

My first Thinkpad, a 770E, was purchased at a US Customs auction. It was among a huge lot of Thinkpads confiscated as they were being exported out of the US.

Maybe thats what is taking so long, because customs have to check each laptop to see if its really from Lenovo or a counterfeit copy with the same logo on the box.
