Lenovo L!ve 2006 Events in Central Europe

#1 Post by lophiomys » Mon May 22, 2006 5:28 am

Has anyone attended one of these Lenovo L!ve 2006 events?
Any experiences, feedback or opinions on it?

As far as I can see from the link below they only are taking place
in German speaking countries. (Link in German)

Here's my feedback:
Yesterday I attended the Lenovo Live 2006 in Vienna, Austria, EU.
There is not much to report - unfortunatly - it was a very
low level marketing event. A Staged podium discussion about
how wonderful and "innovative" Lenovo is.
Techically below the limit, compared to what I would have expected.
The same also true for the specialized break-out-session
on Thinkpads in the afternoon. It was a mere marketing exercise,
also featuring Lenovo 3000 notebooks for the "consumer market".
An example:
The speaker there there was talking about ten minutes, about
how wonderful it would be, that you can swap optical drives between
compatible Rx and Tx models. (9 mm vs. 12 mm height drives).
This was reminding me of a guy selling kitchen appliances on a trade fair booth.
IMHO this was just a tactical move to distract from
the before mentioned fact that
batteries, power bricks ( 20V in new T6x models), keyboards and
docking stations are NOT compatible anymore to older models.

Propably this was mostly intended to be a mere cover for a
meeting with resellers and business partners, who had their
own separated sessions.

The positive experience was, that there was a big table
dispalying all Tx and Rx and Xx models for hands-on testing.
So I left the ridiculous podium discussion, and had a nice time
playing around with them:

I tried
a T60 , 15", XGA, X1300, 1.66 GHz single core and
a T60, 14", SXGA+, X1400, 2.0 GHz dual core
and both models didn't get hot under serveral minutes
of 100%CPU. The fan of these models also was nicely quiet, and
switched off after the stress was taken from the CPU.

IMHO the X60/X60s are some really nice machines, tiny, sturdy,
featureing amazing battery live - "... 13h with the big battery,
a full Lenovo working day...", but asked, the marketing clerk could
not remember for shure, how long it would last with the standard
battery. He would be against learning such things by rote, as
he expressed himself during the Tinkpad breakout session.

The keyboards where all good, and even when I mentioned that
the keyboard on one single machine was on the mushy side,
someone else, who then also started trying the keyboards,
ment that he would actually perfer the keyboard I didn't like.
Seems to be a matter of taste.

The hand-writing-recoginition on the X41 Tablet really surprised
me. It could make sense of every thing I was scribbling there.

And last but not least the overall build quality, stability and
screen quality was superb on every model.

Have a nice day
