Travelling with a T series and charging AA batteries!

#1 Post by bill bolton » Thu Jun 08, 2006 11:11 pm

I just found an Energizer brand ~1 hour battery charger for 4 x AA and AAA NiMH batteries. The charger is a light plastic assembly which has a 12V socket on the side. It comes with a switch-mode mains plug-pack that will accept mains voltage inputs from 100V to 240V AC and provides a DC output of 12C at 1.6A. It also comes with a cable with an automotive cirgarette lighter adapter on one end and a 12v plug on the other.

Now the really neat thing about this is that that the charger part will also run off any ThinkPad T series power supply which will plug right into ths socket on the side! This means there one less power pack I now need carry around with me when travelling! :D :D :D

The mains plug-pack in the package I bought has a type Type G plug on the mains side (to suit my local conditions) but its clear from the csontruction of the plug-pack that it would be simple for the manufacturer to fit that part of the case assembly with any of the common global mains plug types...... so I strongly suspect that are there are indeed CH1HR models for most of the major types of main power sockets. This is also supported by the US and European versions of the instruction sheets I found on the web.

The model number on the charger part label shows "CH1HR-ANZ", the part number of the plug pack is CH1HR-ADP, while the part number of the packaging is CH1HRCP-4B.

For those in Australia, I bought mine from my local Australia Post Office, for A$69.95.

I found references in a Goggle search to the CH1HR being available from Walmart on the US.

The packaging says "Energizer Rechargeable - Ultra Fast Charger - Digital - Includes 4 x AA 2500 mAh Batteries"

Cheers,

Bill

Awesome; thanks for the heads up Bill...Wouldn't it be great if we would only have to take *one* power adapter with us for various devices? Laptop + Cell Phone + PDA + iPod + ...etc.

Could have been worse, could have tried to charge those batteries over USB! ;) :)

Oooh - nice find! :) I was at my local AusPost today - would have been a nice purchase to add to the A$4.95 ream of Reflex paper I bought since the AA charger I have here at home takes an excruciating 7 hours.

Travelling with a T series and charging AA batteries!

#5 Post by RRHODY » Sun Jun 11, 2006 11:59 am

Amazing news.
I have had a SPIKE Ni-MH/Ni-Cd charger for about two years. Always carried it with me to plug into the AC wall outlet to recharge my camera batteries. It has the two prongs for the wall outlet that fold down and don't stick out when traveling.
The designation is Model CHB-7NSD Battery Charger. It holds either four (4) AAA or AA batteries.
Now I find out the DC connection can be connected to my ThinkPad AC adapter and recharge in any country, not just in the US where there's 110.
An interesting side note. While the IBM adapter plug fits into the charger, the DC cigarette adapter that came with the charger DOES NOT fit into the thinkpad (Thank GAWD!).

Yep, it is... :)

Just got a new Windows Mobile 5.0 phone/PDA/Media Player (O2 XDA Mini S) and it can charge over the USB synch cable.

I figure I just lost 5 lbs of chargers, cradles, cables, etc. from my luggage.

Of course, I've got a T42p. So when I blow out the motherboard again turning a USB device off, I'll have absolutely nothing - no phone, no PDA, no Media, and no laptop.
