Warranty on accessories?

#1 Post by renhui » Fri Jul 21, 2006 3:48 am

I know thinkpad warranty is on the unit itself. I was wondering what about the accessories then. Say if I buy a BNIB burner from some private seller on ebay, do I get the standard 1-year warranty? Will there be a transfer involved?
Thank you.

If you buy from Lenovo for a machine bought from Lenovo the accessory will inherit the machine's warranty - so even if the warranty on the accessory is only 90 days, if you buy it for a machine with 2 years left on the 3 year warranty the accessory will be warrantied for 2 years.

If you buy from eBay you get anywhere from nothing (for gray market, stolen, or counterfeit goods) to the standard warranty for the accessory.

Buyer beware.

That only applies to accessories purchased at the same time as the machine Ed.

Accessories purchased later only have whatever warranty is offered with them.
