When is a T20 worth $990 ??

#1 Post by kstuart » Tue Jul 25, 2006 8:28 pm

You tell me:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0008533468

Note over a dozen bids over $200 ??

The only thing that makes sense to me is one of those comedy movie plots, i.e. "he forgot that he hid the diamonds inside the laptop..." :D

i posted a few weeks back about a woman on ebay selling an i1200 for a buy it now of $750- i told her she was insane, and she whined about how she spent so much money on it when it was new, and had no idea what depreciation was.

some people..

edit: oh [censored], it sold for that price..

 $750 for an i1200? Was it a TFT or HPA model? I have a pristine condition i1210 with USB floppy drive, working battery, 160mb RAM, 12gb HD and 12" HPA display sitting around recieving almost no use. Since this thing has been upgraded a few times, I'm hoping for a cold $1000. :)

Whether or not she ever actually received the money for the "sale" is open to conjecture!

I've also witnessed some over the top sales on eBay over the years, most of them wound up being scams of some ilk or another.

Sold at full price, after a mini bidding war in the 700-range

That is so funny.

Last year, I saw a guy selling an Dell inspiron 8100 for a BIN price at 18,000,000 US dollar (Yes, 18 Million). I PM-ed him what is going on and if there is a price error. He said no. He is just trying to retire and he has a lot "accessories with the unit", including--
His house,
His wife,
His whole life,
His company,
etc...

I know he was just trying to be funny. That happened when there was free listing promotion.

But for this one, I really do not know why.

She was selling an i1300, but she still didn't have a clue. Note that she listed it as having a 15" display, but then copied and pasted the unit's description directly from the Lenovo website which specifically states that the unit comes with a 13.3" XGA display!

It's obvious that she did absolutely NO homework or research on this unit as a quick search of eBay would have found the exact same unit selling for a BIN starting at $229.95!

When you see Thinkpads going for this price, it is the result of wives giving their husbands ultimatums to finally sell their Thinkpads (which they don't want to part with) in eBay. Wives can be very jealous.
And us husbands can be a bunch of sneaky [censored]: "See, honey, I told you it wouldn't sell. It must be meant to be."

You have several options to solve your problem:
1- Upgrade hardware
2- Upgrade firmware
3- Reboot every now and then

Regarding 3, you should know by now where her reboot button is. :P

"What is the Grafenburg Spot?"

Is that under "Female Anatomy for $500"?

Ooooooh, so close, yet so far (no pun intended, really :D )

The correct spelling is "Gräfenberg" although you did answer in the form of a question. :)

To revive the thread, a T20 is worth $990 the same day a 755CX is worth $180.

That item has been circulating on eBay continually being relisted for at least two years now. The seller obviously doens't know about depreciation. For that price, most people couln't care less about it being new in box since they could buy a good PIII laptop with that money.

You are right. Most people. But I know some nuts (including me, if I had the money  ) that wouldn't mind paying in that region for a new in the box 701C (even a 701CS for crying out loud). Even more for a new in the box S30 or S31. That's why they call me Thinkpaddict.
