"Lenovo CEO Bill Amelio plans to greatly expand the vendor's footprint in the market, but not before significantly improving the company's ability to execute orders.

On the heels of Lenovo's recent financial results, Amelio said the company needs to hold its suppliers more accountable to their service level agreements, better synchronize manufacturing times with flights that ship product to the United States from China and hold carriers more accountable for delivering product in good condition.

Good to see that someone is admitting there are problems. As many here can attest, EZServ is one big [fargin'] mess that needs to be cleaned out with a fire hose.

Well, frankly, can't see much encouragement in the article.
They claim they will strive to convert Thinkpad's (and other) to Lenovo 3000 series which may mean Thinkpad line may be replaced by Lenovo's own 3000 (or whatever will come in the future) in the long run. So far I cannot see how 3000 line can replace Thinkpad, in particular in business environment...
14.1" T43 2668-6ZU machine.
ATI x300, 1GB RAM, 40 GB HDD, all the connectivity (except of Bluetooth), DVD/CD-WR Combo...
Still excited about this great machine...

I doubt that will happen. Only that one consulting firm asked its clients to look at the Lenovo 3000 as a replacement.

Also, Lenovo continues to ship more ThinkPad models. I doubt that they would do away with ThinkPads because they are higher margin machines and the market demands such machines. The 3000 series simply does not have the durability and feature set that many corporate customers demand.

The odds of ThinkPads disappearing are probably about as good as the odds of Toyota dispensing with Lexus!

Yes exactly, the market demand is a very powerful factor. In addition, the long positive history and performance of the ThinkPad Brand is something that has set a standard that is beyond reproach.

I am very immersed in the "international sales and marketing crowd" and when I look around in all the various hotels / airports / and places where laptops are used and client meetings are held like at Starbucks / hotel meeting rooms etc, over 90% of the laptops I see are ThinkPads.

Well Said... :D What we have here is nothing more than "change" from IBM to Lenovo. The ThinkPad line is very valuable and Lenovo knows that. Like any other change or transition there will be bumps along the road, however it's highly unlikely that this car will be totalled...
