to the best of my knowledge, a port replicator simply attaches to the back of the thinkpad. it contains ports so you don't have to keep plugging and unplugging all of your peripherals in.

the dock contains a removable drive, ie. hard drive, optical drive, etc., plus has ports on the back.

i suggest you do a little searching on the forum for your questions. even a simple google picture search could fill you in.

A Thinkpad port replicator literally just replicates (mostly) the standard ports on the ThinkPad, plus maybe give you a few other connectors, such as DVI video, PS/2 mouse/keyboard etc. It usally runs off the ThinkPad power supply

A Thinkpad mini-dock is similar but has its own power supply and usually provides a USB hub function etc, plus it has a key lock on it..

A full Thinkpad dock is like a mini-doc but usually adds the ability to mount a device in it. For instance, in the case of the T4x models, the device is a half length PCI card.

Cheers,

Bill

Port replicators are not recognised by the operating system as a docking station so you don't automatically get separate hardware profiles or an undock option.
