Hard Drive Image after we upgrade next year to Vista?

#1 Post by stephenaron » Tue Aug 29, 2006 7:19 pm

Will we be able to purchase a new HD image from IBM, that will have Vista? I am sure most of us will be upgrading the OS...any info?

Well, why would we need to? As long as the drivers are available to support our current systems in Vista (and on my T60 they are), you could just install Vista yourself, and install the new Vista ready ThinkVantage software.

Guess you are right, was just thinking its certainly easier when the Thinkvantage stuff is already installed via the Image.

What stinks is if you purchase a Vista "upgrade", you'll likely need to install XP, then upgrade, since we get images, rather than OEM CD's.

So it's a much longer task. I had the same BS with my Gateway when upgrading from 98 to XP... need to install 98 first, then I can upgrade to XP.

Would be a good idea though. OEMs like Lenovo could make good money selling a whole new preloaded hard disk upgrade, complete with the preconfigured service partition etc. That's not a retrofit--that's an upgrade.

I'd just be happy if we could get a CD that would allow us to install Vista "Upgrade" without needing to install XP first (just like you can if you have a regular OEM CD, not an image).
