Lenovo.com T60 orders have US warranty only?

#1 Post by briansmith » Sat Sep 02, 2006 7:20 pm

(A) Is it really true that the T60 2613 model has a US-only warranty?
(B) Is there any way to extend the warranty to be the same as the 2623, which is international (at least, it is covered in Thailand, Vietnam, China, and other countries I will be in)?
(C) I have been using the computer for a week. Is it possible to return/exchange it with Lenovo (with or without a restocking fee) to get a model that has international warranty coverage?
(D) If I send the 2613 into Thailand's (for example) support center, will they totally refuse to fix it?

I ordered a T60 2613EAU (14.1 SXGA + T2400) off of Lenovo.com. I figured that this would give me the best warranty possible. However, when I went to look at the international warranty coverage page [1], I saw that this model is only covered in the US [2]. This is really unsettling for me because I purchased the Thinkpad specifically because I wanted an international warranty as I will be traveling in Asia for a long time. (I didn't find the International Warranty search page until after I received the item). I tried a few other configurations for the T60 and they all came back with USA-warranty-only model numbers. This makes me think that if I order from Lenovo.com then I will only get a USA warranty. Is that true?

Here is the International Warranty search page:

Here is the result for 2613:

all thinkpads have typically had a 3 year international warranty..

with the inception of the "express" models, some came with 1 year and some with 3 year warranties..

but always these were international warranties..

looking at TABook 311 i don't see a 2613 model..
only a 2623 model with a 3 year warranty..

things might have changed but if so it would really be a step in the wrong direction for lenovo..

Bill,

Thanks for your reply. If you choose any T60 (not T60p) model on Lenovo.com via "Small Business" or "Products" you will get a 2613 model, AFAICT.

But, if you choose "Education" or "Enterprise" you will get different models (e.g. 2007), and the prices vary by a huge amount (I guess the forum rules don't allow me to elaborate here).

I guess I will call somebody at Lenovo to see if my warranty is really restricted to the US only.
