Blow out with a good canned air every once in a while.

Don't do the one handed corner grab pick up :BAAAD!: to impress friends, especially with a 15" model.

Use 50/50 water and isopropyl alchohol (recommended by IBM) on the LCD

Don't plug in to bad power sources :BAAAD!: (if you can help it)

Buy a very good carrying case (why skimp there)

I will be plugging my T60 into questionable power sources every single day for months (because that is all that is available). What can I do to protect it?

Thanks,
Brian

Use a working surge protector?

Other than carry a UPS with you nothing. Use the battery if you are sure there is questionable voltage. I have found over the years that a lot of homes in downtown areas in any city USA being converted to offices is a bad deal for power for office equipment. We routinely have problems with trying to install equipment in this type of environment. We use a device called a "sure test" to give some idea of the power and of any bad wiring, false grounds, etc. We immediately inform the customer of the problem and the ramifications thereof. Surge protectors do nothing for bad wiring or faulty voltage, they only help with extreme spikes. There are some surge protectors, in the way higher end range, $90 or up, that will not work at all when plugged into an incorrectly wired/bad voltage outlet ESP is one that we use, they also guarantee repair of the product in the event their device allows damaging voltage to pass through. I bought a Cyber Power UPS at staple for around $48.00 my house, it has ethernet(rj45) and phone(rj11) port protection.

Don't leave it on the back of your car and reverse over it by accident.

Follow all the great suggestions above and most of all, do not skimp on the case. You have an expensive laptop, buy a good properly fitting padded case. You will not regret it.

Good Luck and enjoy your new ThinkPad... :D
