So what exactly does this warranty cover?
My T41p (second hand) which I have only just received, within about a day has developed a stuck pixel: on the right of the screen it is a light blue color.
I was wandering if the warranty covers this? I'm afraid it's going to develop more than one, and one is annoying enough as it is.
Does the warranty cover keyboards?
A bit of clarity would be really nice, since the warranty is up for renewal at the end of the year. I'm just seeing if it's worth it.
This pixel business since it was not like this on arrival and is a product of... I don't know, I'd classify this as warranty.
Thanks for the help.

Check the Freq asked Stuff link in my sig, it has some general information. My experience with warranty is anytime I have called for tech support I've been very satisfied, to include part replacement, HD, wireless card, and an entire machine.
I think they look at 9 pixels to qualify for a replacement LCD, but why not call the 800 number and see.?

Ah, I see; I thought it would be a quick litmus test type thing, worked or didn't. Do you have a link to an executable version that I can keep going at night? Thanks.techflavor wrote: How long did you let the pixel exerciser run? I believe it's recommended to run it overnight (or for a pretty long period).

If you buy a car with a warranty, they're not going to repaint your car after you scratch it, so I don't see why you'd think that! However, if it goes in for some other repair, sometimes they replace random parts.

but the car also deoesn't normally get scrated by itself.dsigma6 wrote:If you buy a car with a warranty, they're not going to repaint your car after you scratch it, so I don't see why you'd think that! However, if it goes in for some other repair, sometimes they replace random parts.
same goes for the computer. if the user causes a dead pixel then they will not fix it. but if the dead pixel appears from normal use then yes they should fix it.

Well your analogy seems pretty sound until you realise you can say anything to prove anything.
I'm just saying when you buy a Thinkpad you kind of want some longevity and security here... yes you shouldn't have typed on your keyboard heaven for bid, so it must be your fault that it's worn off.
Or isn't this "normal use" as the above poster mentioned, how do I make my screen have dead pixels and why would I want to?
I'll give them a call; does it make a difference that it's second hand?

Christ, you can't say anything simple without being challenged. A car doesn't get scratched by itself, as a ThinkPad doesn't get scratched by itself. You can't expect something to be replaced because you used it; that's when you go out and replace the part, sell the [censored] thing, or live with it.
If manufacturers had to accept a return on every LCD with a dead pixel, they would be out of business.

I was being nice before, but making this arguement for a used computer?Dead1nside wrote:does it make a difference that it's second hand?

this is what i call an "analogy", but you just twisted my argument.dsigma6 wrote: A car doesn't get scratched by itself, as a ThinkPad doesn't get scratched by itself. .
lets put it that way: if you get scratched mercedes benz from the dealer, you can go back and get it fixed. if you get dead pixels in your new LCD you should also be able to get it fixed.

No, no...The correct terminology is as follows...*

*Note: This is because I have studied modern internetology and have written virtual dissertations about such terminology; this doesn't mean I have to understand it or anything crazy like that. The "Untitled Document" title for the post does, in no way, indicate I made this in a small word processor as a second thought to entertain people that should or shouldn't be on the interwebs (which are tubes, not trucks); only that I am a very important person and I use the internet. Naturally, this entitles me to have to worry about such things as titles or meaningful content.

the pixel policy criteria is dependant on the display itself as stated here:A small number of missing, discolored, or lit all the time dots or pixels is characteristic of thin-film transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) technology due to manufacturing process for such technology irrespective of manufacturer. If your LCD has defective pixels, it should not be considered faulty until the number of defective pixels meets or exceeds the number listed in the Pixel policy criteria.

Chris, you could have epitomized the intelligent class clown if you had the time in high school (Which one would assume you didn't!)christopher_wolf wrote: No, no...The correct terminology is as follows...*

They might replace the steering wheel, though, if its coating gets worn off within a shorter than expected time period.dsigma6 wrote:If you buy a car with a warranty, they're not going to repaint your car after you scratch it, so I don't see why you'd think that! You can find it at http://www.dps.uk.com/freeware_DTP.htm
Use the Stuck Pixel Exerciser option. When it opens the little window, you can drag it by the black border--place it over the stuck pixel and let it run overnight.
