Need suggestion on buying new Thinkpad

#1 Post by ryengineer » Thu Sep 21, 2006 11:02 am

Hello all,

I am using IBM A31 for the last 4 months as my school laptop.
It's flawless but is kind of heavy to carry around so I'm looking to
buy a similar sort of thin machine with the budget of $700 in hand.

Two specific things I would like to have in it are:

1. 15''in screen and

2. ATI Radeon graphics card.

All suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks.

you'll get better and more detailed advice from others, BUT..

you'll not save much in weight between an A31 and a T41 with 15 inch display..
and a T40 series is what i would suggest..

the next thing is what display resolution are you using and wanting..?

Thanks for your reply.

Well, I'm using 15"-inch active matrix display with the resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater and will probably go for the same.

How about R40?

If you can find someone who works for IBM, or for Lenovo, you can get a decent R60 new for less than $XXX, not including tax and stuff thru the employee purchase program.

Personally, the only reason for getting 15" laptop was 1600x1200 resolution. If 1024x768 is enough, consider getting something 14" or even less.

I'm not personally sure if there was a T41(p) with the 15'' screen.

Personally and as you'll see in my signature I'm biased, but my T41p does everything I could want it too... of course I want a T60p. But that's just not as portable, and I doubt the battery life is any better.

It's a very speedy machine, with just the right amount of everything, and the resolutuion (1400x1050) means that even though it's only 14.1'' it is very usable.
