Brick & mortar Thinkpads

#1 Post by akeskira » Thu Sep 21, 2006 2:52 pm

I live in Europe where Thinkpads are notoriously expensive, but coming to the States for a 2 week vacation next month. I'm spending time mostly in NYC, FL, SC, NC and TN.

I could order a TP to my friend's address, but I would also like to have an option to pick one up from a brick and mortar store. Do you know any viable retailers in the abovementioned states? I really hope Merom would be available by the time I'm there (Oct 8-22)... I used to live in Boston and back then ibm.com was notoriously slow shipping new laptops. That's why a retailer with off-the-shelf products interest me :)

Thanks!

Not sure about Brick & Mortar... but if you order a thinkpad from a reseller, such as newegg.com, CDW, Buy.com, PCMall, zones.com etc. you could have it shipped to your friend quickly. All those are premade and if you check they are in stock, they can ship ASAP.

Office Depot carries ThinkPads. They usually have a couple of ThinkPads on display, but they carry more models. AFAIK, they are pretty much nationwide. Call the stores in your area to see which models they have on display.

You'll typically have more choice by mail than in store, so if you have the time, you may want to look online and consider shipping to your friend.

Unless of course your not very picky (rare around here), in which case OfficeDepot may be ideal for you.
