IBM's mark is gone

#1 Post by cchsiao » Mon Oct 23, 2006 5:33 pm

If you connect to Lenovo's homepage, you will see what the title mean. These new R and T lookings are really ugly :p Even though they don't wanna put IBM on it, I think they should put something else.

By the way, ``IBM'' is fading out finally...

Not sure what you mean, you mean the fact that they refer to the models as "thinkpads"?

Mine has that lovely IBM sticker, but I dont really mind what producer is on it - bottom line is, it is a very good machine, which was still designed by the IBM R&D crew :)

Lenovo has rights to the IBM Thinkpad branding in its marketable entirity for 5 years since the original business transaction. They are most assuredly not giving up this early before they can build up their market momentum even more.

They do, however, change their website quite a bit and frequently. Also, I don't know what is so drastic about the new T Series and R Series as they have now been out for quite awhile. :)

Since the merger, I've seen pictures of laptops and desktops with the IBM logo photoshopped out but in most cases, the actual thing would still have the logo. In fact, on some of the larger photos, you can even see the artificial smear marks from where the clone stamp was used.

Where did you see the artifical ones? I haven't seen a picutre of a Thinkpad, except for maybe once during their Olympics promotion, where I couldn't see the "IBM" mark. :)

Just look around on Lenovo's website and you'll see an artificial one. Any with a smooth, logo-less wristpad are photoshopped. The Olympics ones actually did lack the IBM logo but still had the imprint in the wristpad for the sticker.

I can assure you that the IBM logo will not totally disappear that quickly.
And when it eventually does so, the bezel will not be plain on the lower right corner : a ThinkPad logo will replace the IBM one

Good bye IBM! To me the logo is legacy, meaningless history. Thinkpad is now Lenovo's and that's all. And say what? in their Chineese's web page all the Thinkpads still have the IBM's sticker...

Farewell to original IBM logo. Those of you who owned original IBM thinkpads, please use it and take care of it with super extreme care. It is priceless and can be kept as a memory.

IBM is gone!! *sob* *sob*

BTW: Can someone post the smeared IBM logo (artificial IBM logo) for us to see, please. Thanks.

Losing the IBM logo is like losing all my best friends. :-(

Not at all NS, it is as if your daughter weds and changes her surname, in a certain way your family is loosing her, but you must admit reality and the changes life brings... yes we will miss IBM's logo on the machines but what does it mean IBM for the Thinkpad brand now? Even if they still keep their 13% share in the Lenovo's actionary compound, what may it represent in a real participation in the management of the brand? Design, production, marketing and commertialization? ... don't know, but certainly Lenovo is a well different company from IBM and it deserves to put its own image on the lappys, we should admit it, and I believe the sooner the better, no matter they have 3 years left of the right to use the trademark image what is the benefit to have IBM's beside the brand? It could be negative if you know the shift they are making toward services and software development... no more PC handling so what is the practical meaning of bearing an outdated image?
