Point of Proper Protocol?

#1 Post by riski1 » Sat Nov 11, 2006 3:54 pm

Afternoon all,

Been thru much of your archives and found gads of info which helps me about 90% of the time. My question is how to address the 10% that the previous threads leaves me in awe or misunderstanding.

Gone through the Rules of the Road and other stickies and it doesn't seem to be addressed. Here's my example :

Got a T23 with a new 80Gb hard drive and XP Pro to install. Found several threads with alot of info to get me going, but what should I do if I have a more definate question about a post in an older thread:

Should I post it in the older thread which will bring it back to life; or, post a new post and add a link to the older thread as reference?

Not sure how you all like it as I'm fairly new here.

Thank you for setting me straight 8)

RJ

Unless there is a thread that deals with a specific issue that you are having, I'd go with a new thread ...

Depends, if it is really important and the problem that you are having is not directly the cause of the other thread, I would say post a new one. If it is like the old thread, but you can't get it to work, then you can post and bump the old thread with the question. :)

Yes, we all have our issues with the search function, and most are more than happy to either answer the question, take a shot at an answer or may point you in the direction of a thread they remember dealing with the issue or a similar issue. :)

Don't worry too much about that. :)

It is also important to gain new points of view on old problems so as to best come up with better future solutions. :D
