Too many accessories??

I've slowly been converting from HP desktops to IBM laptops. When I first started this, I was loving all the extra desk space and lack of cables hanging all over the place. But......being the OCD type that I am, I love getting options and accessories to go with anything I get. I'm slowly starting to accumulate many plug in items, to the point that I now have great access to many different formats but my cabling issue is actually worse now. That and all the power adapters that go with said items.

How do you folks see your own situation, better, worse, about the same, or like me.......outta control?

A port replicator or a dock might be in order for you. Port replicators do a great job of collecting cables at the back, out of sight. The laptop just ejects when need be. ... JD Hurst

That's what's funny, that's the one thing that I don't have yet. With cameras, ipods, and what not, usb cables are a hassle.

I agree that docks and port replicators are very useful and as an somewhat OCD type myself, I've accumulated 2 docks and 3 port replicators! I do have one caveat though. Although the port replicator is a lot less hassle in that it's smaller and doesn't have the complication of loading drivers etc. on the machine, it doesn't have a built-in hub on top of which it only has one USB port (even if your machine has 2 like your T23 and T30) so you'll end up having to get another device to handle all your devices.

So, in your situation, you might be better off considering the Dock, since it at least has 2 USB ports, but more importantly has a PCI slot that would allow you to put a USB 2.0 card in it and be able to handle things such as the iPod better. The Dock also has 2 additional PC Card slots that allows for even more expansion capability.

Oh yeah, the port replicator needs you to supply the A/C adapter so you'll have to plug and unplug that when you travel, or you'll need to buy another one so you can keep one in your bag. The dock on the other hand has it's own power supply.

I also have the cabling issue. I have a laser printer, scanner, 3 external HDs, a wireless mouse (still with wires connected to the usb first though), ipod, etc. I use a usb hub for everything. Not a fan of port replicator.

I love my Multi-Port USB Hub, (00N8219). Gives me four usb's, a parallel, serial, KB, & mouse, (and it looks really nice). Still needs a power supply though....

I went with a wireless print server on my LaserJet, (best thing I've done in a long time), even though it was a small pain in the wazoo to get configured the first time. I can mount it (or the printer for that matter just about anywhere since I'm running two access points besides the wireless router. Wish I could find a 90 degree turn down for the printer cable so I could get the server closer to a wall.

I found that I prefer digital cameras that power through the usb port for downloading pictures. Not only does it save on batteries, it's a lot quicker to hook up.
