I think Lenovo was going to keep the IBM logo on the Thinkpads through around 2010. Does anyone know why they want to remove it so quickly?

Well, I expected this - I think the new logo is the same as the one coming during boot-up. I liked the old logo better though.

But hey, if they make 'em as solid as ever, I don't care what sticker they are going to put on it. A thinkpad is a thinkpad is a thinkpad.

Better sooner than latter... it didn´t make any sense to me the IBM brand on a product that is no longer from Big Blue... I agree with gator, Thinkpad has reached adult age and it is time to leave mother´s name behind and live by its own... We will keep loyal to the brand until it keeps improving, and as I see it will be so for a long time.

Probably because Lenovo wants to brand the Thinkpad as "their" product. Most people still think new Thinkpads are by IBM. If they ask you what type of computer you have and you say "Lenovo Thinkpad", they wont know what that is.

I'm with you thePCxp. I think Lenovo did a fine job designing the new logo while maintaining the legacy theme. :)

That said, I must admit I am saddened somewhat that IBM sold the PC division. I still wish ThinkPads were being manufactured and sold by IBM even though IBM built the ThinkPads overseas. I hate to see some of my favorite products no longer coming from the country where they were born (the USA): furniture, clothing, shoes, PC's, the list goes on... Globalization.

Yes, that's obvious to me too, but like you said, most people still don't know what Lenovo is, so I the IBM logo would help Lenovo sell their Thinkpad lines, and dropping it doesn't seem like a wise move.

It is sad to see IBM go away, but it looks like the same size as the current logo, so you might be able to buy an "IBM ThinkPad" logo sticker and pop it on there. I sort of like the new one, but I think they could of done better.

Even though i agree that sometime in the future the ibm logo will gone anyway but it is still hard to adapt with the corner without red-green-blue logo...

So if you ask me whether i am going to sell my T30/R52 (manufactured for IBM/NY/Armonk/USA), i will say NO... I am going to keep it as a memory and will keep it working all the way and no matter how it dies and how expensive it takes to repair, i will gladly pay for the fees to keep it running forever and buy a display cabinet and store these true blue thinkpads in the cabinet and labelled it as IBM thinkpad museum. ;-)

Am i able to find any IBM thinkpad stickers anywhere so that in future if IBM logo goes away, i can paste the stickers there to satisfy my craziness. :-)

Quality should remain the same or be improved or else i will go for a Fujitsu lifebook.

Good idea! After selling my X22 two days ago (it was not an easy decision....), I'm now left with only two Thinkpads, and i will try to hold on to at least one of them for as long as possible.

If Lenovo really removes the IBM sign.... the world will end.

By the way, for the T60 widescreen series, they added the lenovo sign beneath the LCD.

Look, brand name is very important to me. After a computer is 10 years old, only thing that's left is the brand name.

There are thinkpads that are 10 years old, but still shine in my eyes because of the "IBM" logo on it.

Lenovo? Everybody knows that company lags 20 years behind IBM.

Believe me, after a computer is 10 years old, the only important thing is whether or not it works and gets the job done. *That* is the important thing. Be the branding "IBM" or just "ThinkPad" on it, as long as it lives up to its operational lifetime as have many Thinkpads before it, then it is just as much of a Thinkpad as its ancestors.

This is pretty much the sticky end-game of the great tool that is called marketing and mindshare that are key to the successful market acceptance of a product in the first place; that's how the ThinkPads started.

Wow! I think the new logo is HOT! As a newcomer to thinkpads (just got a T22 used! LOVE it) I don't have the "IBM" attachment. I've actually worked at IBM a few years ago, but I consider the PC division a done deal.

There's no more corporate IBM involvement in thinkpads (aside from marketing advising), so it makes sense to remove the logo.

I think it's fine.
It does look weird but guesse people will get used to it.
Besides, it says "thinkpad", not "lenovo". (and that there stands "lenovo" on the screenbottom I think is just normal, it's the only visible place where "lenovo" stands and like it or not, they own thinkpads now)

So here is the real deal: Lenovo will give it's major corporate accounts the option of either the ThinkPad logo or the IBM logo (and that's why the two logos are the same size, as noted by another poster).

The retail units will keep the IBM logo until at least 2008 by agreement with IBM, and Lenovo then has the option of extending that to 2010 when their rights expire.

If Lenovo keeps with the tradition of quality ThinkPads as well as A+++ Tech. Support, they will continue to earn my business. If and when they fail to keep to these standards, our relasionship will come to an end.

There are many great companies building laptop computers in this day and age, thus there are only two reasons to stay loyal to Lanovo............. A. Quality. B. Tech. Support.

As far as lables, stickers, and the such, as far as I'm concerned they can put "WAS IBM, NOW LENOVO", OR MY JUNKER CLUNKER".

Really, who gives a Cr$5p.

Just my 2 cents.........................

As long as they keep up the great support and quality parts, I could care less if it was called Dell.

...... okay, maybe not Dell, but really - I can deal with it.

I like it. But the IBM is just so classic.

Bit more modern.

I personally like the IBM logo on my T22, but then IBM really made it. I like that fact too (I can be a brand name snob) because I researched computer makers for a long time before my purchase and decided on IBM for a reason - they were the very best. But they don't want to make Thinkpads anymore, and Lenovo does. I think as long as Lenovo maintains the reasons why I bought an IBM computer, then that is what's most important in the end. But they should get the credit, so I feel their name should be on it. They are still attracting future buyers with the Thinkpad name, much like unknown actors, singers, etc getting notoreity by using their famous parents last names....

Bottom line though, I am so happy my laptop says IBM, it is a pride issue with me. 8)
