One of the coolest looking laptop mods I've seen is where this person modified his PowerBook G3 so the Apple logo, instead of being all white, was the retro "rainbow apple" logo and it lit up when the computer screen was on. There was a few photos of it on this one website of it and one was of the computer in the dark and the lit up "rainbow Apple" just looked really cool.
This is the link to it:

Another really cool looking mod is this one here:

I also think there's a wood or marble book on the site somewhere that looks nice.

That's fine if you want everyone to think you have a generic "Black Box" laptop. This will be especially true now that the color accents have been removed from the TrackPoint keys on the newer ThinkPads.johnchan wrote:i wished the IBM logo wasnt there either, like no name, that'd make this laptop perfect, except for the fan noise pulsing thing of course!
While I don't want to scream out what I have, I don't want people coming over and saying "Who makes that laptop?"
[well I guess the fan noise pulsing thing on some models might give it away

Are you serious or being factitious? There are two ways of looking at it (besides standing on your feet or standing on your head). I see what you are talking about, but if you think about it, if the ThinkPad is closed the logo would look upside down if placed the other way around.dsvochak wrote:The thing I've never understood is why, when using the machine, the IBM Thinkpad logo on the lid is upside down.

A little bit of both. I know what kind of machine it is, so I don't need a logo. If you're going to put a logo on the outside, it seems to me that you would want people walking by to be able to read it without doing handstands. Are you serious or being factitious?
On the other hand, the IBM look and Thinkpad logo are distinctive enough that most people know what it is without the handstands.
I used to be an anarchist but I quit because there were too many rules
Since you posted that message about the logo's orientation, I've been paying attention to the logos on other brand laptops. I'll have to admit, of the 3 or 4 I've noticed so far, all of them have their logos oriented on the lid so that it is right-side-up when the display is open. So it appears so far that you are in the majority.

Well, the red trim on the Trackpoint buttons went out first on the Z Series; and only later on the T6X Series and X6X Series.

It never occurred to me that some people would want to keep the stickers, like some posters here!
These are marketing, pure and simple. Money changing hands in one way or another; MS to IBM, Intel to IBM, or vice-versa. Pre-arranged advertizing agreements.
I don't consider these things part of the "stock" system like one previous poster does!

Do you never look at the clothing that people wear? I see baseball caps and shirts with logos and names of Nike, Nautilus, Addidas, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Abercrombe and Fitch, the list goes on. Purse's that boast Prada, Dooney and Burke, etc.. Automobiles with their appropiate insignia or hood ornament. True, it's marketing, but it's ubiquitous. Many want to boast that they have the latest and greatest. They want no doubt in the passerby's mind who's gear they have. It is a means of boasting. Some people go so far as to leave the manufacturer's price and option list on a new car window for a few days, so their neighbor knows the car is brand spankin' new!umdenken wrote:It never occurred to me that some people would want to keep the stickers, like some posters here!

just removed the stickers also and replaced them with
a silver Department of Defense US Marine EGA ( Eagle Globe & Anchor ) sticker two days ago... I wish I had a digi cam to post a pic of it... looks quite nice... actually had a couple of people comment on it while doing some research work ( lol ) at Starbucks...
Trying something original on YOUR thinkpad is OKAY as long as it's YOUR thinkpad...
I remember the look of horror on my buddy's face when i tried to take his logo off and replace it with a "metallic " logo sticker i found on www.ibmmania.com haha... anyways, he's been trying to put a sticker or two on my tp ever since !!!

I absolutely detest stickers on palmrests. I've removed all of them ASAP from all laptops that I've owned. I wouldn't mind beautiful stickers on the outside casing but no, not where my hands touch them all the time. I remove all annoying badges from the inside of my shirts too (you know, just below the neckline, itching and annoying the hell out of me), I just can't stand them. Stickers on the palmrest gotta be one of the stupidest marketing ideas of all time.
But then again - there are people who never scrap the stickers off their Ray-Ban sunglasses too so I guess the marketdroids did hit some right nails with sticker decision.

L M A O HAHAHAHAHA
I visited my friend's work today and while he wasn't looking stuck a small " I'm with STUPID " sticker on his palm rest. The sticker should be relatively easy to take off but now i'm afraid i started a war

Unfortunately the site is 90 percent Korean... while technical terms and TP specifications as well as some of the menu links are written in plain and understandable english... the rest is... well... let's just say it wasn't picnic trying to go through them !!!

Whilst helping someone else get their stickers off their T43 that they had for some time, I discovered a very interesting technique to use for removing the ghosted image of the sticker that is left behind.
First, you bounce the sticker up and down for quite awhile
Next, get some olive oil and put it on a damp paper towel or cloth then rub the area several times; next, put some alcohol on a damp cloth and rub it in much the same way as you did with the olive oil; then repeat starting back over with the olive oil. After you did this several times, the ghost image will eventually fade away. Whatever you do, *DO NOT* use large amounts of Acetone and rub hard. I haven't anybody do this on a Thinkpad, but I have seen Acetone-based solutions eat away the plastic and any pigmentation that is in it. If you want to use a tiny bit (far less than a drop, more like a damp smear) then you can immediately after you remove the stickers.

Olive Oil
Regular vegetable oil works just as well, then something like 409 to remove the oil residue, unless it's a Dell, then you can just put your egg there to make breakfast.

Re: Olive Oil
You have *no idea* how spot on that was.schen wrote:Regular vegetable oil works just as well, then something like 409 to remove the oil residue, unless it's a Dell, then you can just put your egg there to make breakfast.
My Dell M60 has actually singed the paint in the area just above the HDD; naturally, I backed everything up...but this has been continuing for awhile now and doesn't seem to be damaging the HDD. It looks strange though.
The Dell is a Precision M60, and it now cannot charge its batteries, either in the bay or main battery, if I use the "wrong" power adapter; although they both have the *same* part number...just one came with the dock and the other with the Dell itself. Perhaps the one that came with the Dell got overloaded when trying to charge two batteries and power the Dell at the same time. Also, this Dell has a Firewire port on the side, but it is not connected to the mobo; There is a bluetooth icon on the LED status bar/hinge, but *no way* for a way, much less an LED, to get to it...It is just a little space that is fully enclosed when you put the coverplate on. Bizzare.
