No more Black Black TP's?

#1 Post by Alltweed » Thu Mar 08, 2007 1:16 am

I liked the old style TP's that were very black, it seems they changed it to a dark grey/blk.

Anyone else notice that? - care?

Can't we have a TP color for both left brain right brain people  I guess color is very subjective.

The other companies designs are just too glossy, flashy for my taste. That said, a little (just a tad) design enhancement would not hurt the TPs...But the dark black ones were distinctive.

Well, in particular - the new T60 15.4 I saw today. Its not as black as my T40 P.

You can see older model TPs ie the 12.1 which seems darker to my eyes.

To the new TP owner - it will seem black - agreed.

I just picked up a T40 and a T42 off the floor and held them next to my 15" T60. The color looks identical to me.

I don't have a widescreen here to look at, but when I saw one a little while back I didn't notice any color difference. I wasn't looking for one, though.

I have a T60p WS sitting next to a T42p and they are the same color and shade of black. I have had ThinkPads since the 701c and they are the same shade of black.

T60 vs. T43 was the same shade.

T43 was the same shade as the T42,41, and 40, X31, X30, A30, T22, 600e, etc.

Not sure what is different about yours,

also, the x series thinkpads have this black rubber covering all over compared to the plain plastic t series (imagine a less sparkling lcd case cover on the t series sprayed all over the palmrest, etc of the x). So in different lightings, my t60 looks black/gray while the x looks black always. But up close, they are the same shade.

actually, the more I thought about it, the only Thinkpad that looked blacker than my T or X series were the A and R series, just because they don't have the rubberized lid the T & X series did, just black plastic that did, I guess, look darker.

I also think ThinkPads were darker in the IBM days

Yeah, the paint was darker in the IBM days, but remember how they manufacture these computers is now a little different then it was. The paints they use have changed (for environmental purposes I guess) and how they apply is probably a little different, so the black paint may differ between thinkpad to thinkpad. The Microcenter near me has a Z61t on display with the titanium lid. It looks nice, but it won't look as nice once it has a few scratches on it. Thats why I like the rubber paint. It is somewhat scratch resistant and when it has a scratch, you cam only fully see it in direct light.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

Before I bought my thinkpad I read this review and when you look at the third picture, which shows a T43 on the left and an R60 on the right, you clearly see the T43 being grey. So maybe some thinkpads are just more grey? (I don't know if the T43 was meant grey, I suppose not)

@Stargate199: I agree. That black paint is really good. I've seen people at school with dells/acers (that I even dare to compare it  ) that are 2 months old and full of scratches at the ugly grey covers while I've seen thinkpads (nearly none at school  ) from 5,10,.. years which look like new.
