Lenovo Warranty Coverage not in Europe?
Lenovo Warranty Coverage not in Europe?
Hello!
I wanted to update my international warranty service for my T60p (2613-HQU) and the technical service guy told me that my warranty will only be valid in US, Canada, Japan and Korea.
I wanted to upgrade to European countries (Germany, Austria, UK), but the service woman told me that my machine is only serviceable within these countries. I cannot understand at all since Lenovo is quite big in Germany as well and they have the service network already established.
Does anyone of you know what to do with the Laptop if it gets damaged and you are located in Europe, but bought the machine in the US? Do I have to send it back to the US for repair?

Just got off the phone with a Lenovo rep and he told me that EU warranty should not be a problem. Basically he said there was between a 3 and 6 month lag before the same model appear in the EU for warranty.

Okay i called them right now too and the rep on the phone told me that there is currently no option to get service for my 2613 T60p in Europe. But i should ask Lenovo Europe directly if they have an option for the 2613.
If my Laptop gets damaged now, I can send it to the US (at my costs) and it would get serviced in the US but the service center wouldn't return the laptop to Europe. So it would have to go over a friend or family member in the USA, who forwards the Laptop afterwards to Europe.

Independent from this thread I contacted a Lenovo Business Partner in Austria,
questioning if a US imported T-model would be under warranty in Austria.
The only thing he said 2 days ago, was that "it should be no problem for a T-Model".
but the more I read here in the forums the more sceptical I get about the matter.
All in all, I just don't get it:
Economy is globalising, reducing costs, and then you wouldn't get
straigt forward and world wide warranty repairs for a premium product

Please check the whether or not your type is covered in your country on the Lenovo warranty site.
Also, as far as I have understood you can always buy an extended warranty for your Thinkpad, but I am not certain of this.
Cheers,
Rasmus
PS: The following types (T60's) are covered within the EU (or at least Denmark): 1951, 1952, 2007, 2008, 8741, 8742, and 6369. There is probably others too.

Hello!
As far as I know the matter is that ThinkPads are much, much cheaper in US than for instance in Denmark. As far as I know an initiative has been made in order to reduce the utility to e.g. Danes of purchasing the ThinkPad in US by preventing the guarantee to scope to e.g. Denmak for a US model.
We could consider it a tactical initiative to nurse the situation that the purpose of a company is to earn money to the company owners.
Best regards,
HD
but it is not all a tactical move to FUD your customers.
If a company removes attractive features from their product,
e.g. easy world-wide warranty support,
the customers will choose an alternative in this highly competitive market
and earnings will drop in the end

Do you think it's such a large part of the customers who travel world wide that your consideration should be valid? I suppose the customers who do not travel world wide may be completely indifferent to such an aspect.lophiomys wrote:but it is not all a tactical move to FUD your customers.

There is no doubt about that. This is due to two factors: a) the lower price in the US and b) the EUR/USD exchange rate.hdahl wrote: As far as I know the matter is that ThinkPads are much, much cheaper in US than for instance in Denmark.
That is not true. On the expensive T60p models (i.e. 2007 or 8341) you have got warranty service in quite a few countries on different continents. As far as I know an initiative has been made in order to reduce the utility to e.g. Danes of purchasing the ThinkPad in US by preventing the guarantee to scope to e.g. Denmak for a US model.

thanks for the link: just nothing new on this side. I still have to make a call to the lenovo british "franchise", in order to found out how much will cost me an extanded warranty ... A shame that companies consider EU customers as cows to be milked ....
