Lenovo Tells me that Flexview is available in CTO
I have been told that Flexview displays are available in CTO units.
I am a Lenovo reseller (though I have not purchased much from them) and my rep is in Canada.
I spoke to a channel manager who configured a machine for me and he told me that Flexview was available in the 14.1" model T60P.
I will probably be ordering one tomorrow.
It has been reported here that the 9-cell battery adds some heft to the box.
Would a couple of you guys comment on this for me. I am considering not worrying about the 9-cell and leaving it as an option for later when I need a replacement battery.
Peace,

Sorry to blow your dreams, but there is NO flexview 14" LCD in any thinkpad (any series, past or present). Your rep is wrong. Wish all you can, you are NOT getting a flexview in 14". Flexview was an option only in 15" models - and came in two resolutions: SXGA+ and UXGA.
If they were available, beleive me there will be thousands of people (including me) who will sell their 15" ones and get the mobile champion 14" in a flash.

Ebay. there are lots of UXGA systems on ebayBing0 wrote:Well if that is true, can you help me get direction on how to find one?
All I need is a relatively recent model number and these guys will try to get it for me.
I don't really care what the display size is I just want the fire gl card with IPS and the Core II duo processor.
you can even just buy the screen.
IT will be hard to find a core 2 system with UXGA, though. It's easy to upgrade the proc yourself though.
Have a look at the tabook:

This is your best guide, and choose a model that suits your needs the best. Then talk to your rep and see if that is still available. AFAIK, there are a few SXGA+ Core 2 duos still available , but I am not sure about UXGA ones.

They have the 128MB graphics card though.
I can get this machine now but you have now given me another idea...changing the screen. How much does the IPS replacement screen cost and does it easily fit?
Now I don't know what to do. I was really sure that I wanted the fire gl graphics card with 256 megs of ram.

I don't understand SXGA+ equivalent to Flexview? I called IBM directly and they said all IBM screens are Flexview which have been introduced a few years.gator wrote:Have a look at the tabook:

How do I know whether I'm getting the real Flexview or not? This is getting very confusing. If the screen is 14" SXGA+ 1400 x 1050, can I say this safely that it's a Flexview?
As said elsewhere in this thread NO 14" LCD thinkpad screens are Flexview, only some 15" (4x3). See the TABOOK referenced in this thread, do a search on "flexview" and you will see that flexview is only mentioned with respect to 15" non-widescreen displays.jlingo wrote:This is getting very confusing. Don
Go instead for a 15" FlexView based T60 model with an ATI Mobility X1400. If they don't list them anymore at the US Lenovo site, search through bigger Thinkpad dealers/resellers near your location.
T60p models with the Fire GL are always expensive and if you don't use a lot of CAD software, where a CAD certified GPU maybe prefered, there is no reason to opt for a Fire GL.

SXGA+ refers only to the resolution, so any SXGA+ screen is 1400 x 1050. Flexview, on the other hand, is a brand name for a different LCD technology (the technical term is IPS, for In-Plane Switching). What that IBM rep said doesn't seem to be correct, since Flexview screens are only available in the 15" form factor. They have recently been discontinued on the T60 line, although I read that it's still possible to get one if you order over the phone.jlingo wrote:I don't understand SXGA+ equivalent to Flexview? I would definitely recommend the 9-cell battery, simply because of its massive battery life (I get 4 to 5 hours on my 15" machine). It does add significantly to the weight, but I consider it to be worth it for the extra battery life.It has been reported here that the 9-cell battery adds some heft to the box.

One thing to consider, though: if you're concerned about the weight, you should know that Flexview-equipped T60's are a lot heavier than the 14" models, because of the 15" form factor. If your focus is on portability, then you might want to go for a 14" model instead of a Flexview-based model.
