Yep, cut out that R&D. Who needs it. Lay off your peoples. And make them loyal customers pay for support. Yep. That is the gossip. Lenovo is gonna charge people for everything unless something is mechanically broke, like a key stopped working. Was looking forward to the new crop of thinkpads to roll out, but now ... not so sure. Rumored consolation prize: if you want to save $30 you will be able to get software support (per incident) for $99, but you have to use chat instead of the phone. I guess we will know more tomorrow or Tuesday.

This has been tried before by other companies and has some limitations, at least in Canada. Here, by law, a product must work as it says on the can, or the vendor must repair or take back the product. That applies, so far as I know, to software as well. I have always been successful at getting free warranty support, at least for the first bit, on anything I have purchased. The worst company to deal with has been HP. We shall see if Lenovo tries to outdo HP.
