Overpriced!

#1 Post by zahir » Mon Apr 30, 2007 3:05 pm

The t series, which i think are ibms best, are sooo over priced here(india). getting one in a few days but almost feel like a moron for paying so much.... can get a better config in the US for so much cheaper..... wonder why they're so high on cost....

ps. i would still pay thru my pocket for a t60, its awesome :)

How many other brands are available in India? If there is less competition from other brands, that would tend to drive prices up.

So, how much is the cheapest Dell laptop available? Right now, the cheapest laptop on Dell.com, the Inspiron 1501, is $499 plus free shipping.

Shocking!
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

It's probably not the stores but the import tax. Some countries tax up to 50% on electronics.

actually its now that the prices have fallen so to speak, till about 2 years ago, they were all expensive.... its only over 2005-2006 that laptop sales have grown like 103%....!

Its still sad how expensive they are though even with parts. It forces end users to buy assembled or OEM parts.... example....

a 100 gig hdd from lenovo is 30,000 (700 usd) but the same thing from an OEM supplier is 6000(130usd)...

Whats the sales tax in India like? Just for fun I checked the Insprion 1501 price in Germany and there you shell out about $780 for the basic system, shipping included, as well as 19% sales tax...

I tried configuring an Inspiron online and I got 919USD for the following setup.
I turned all options off and chose the worst hardware.
It's almost twice the amount someone mentioned in the US.
Though I think this could be because of the current USD/CZcrown ratio.
