Great news! (still fully looking through)
Interesting to note is that the T61 has migrated towards being quite similar to the current ThinkPad Z61 series
As expected.

Edit: R61 is already up for sale  on lenovo.
Second Edit: Saw T61 too, apparently they were updating their site, now both T61 and R61 are up for sale.

Unfortunately exact specs are still missing. I can not believe there won't be a 14" T W/SXGA+ model.

Note: the HP annoucement looks more professional. They already have links to PDF files with model specifications.

More models are expected in few weeks, so perhaps they'll release one with W/SXGA+, if not then I'll be disappointed too.

I'll have to agree with you on hp's more creative way of releasing specs. in pdf formats, I wish lenovo can do the same.

In the T series 16 different models have appeared in the partner portal in Europe.
These range from machines with the C2D T7100 (1,8 Ghz) to C2D T7700 (2,4 Ghz).
They are all 14,1 Wide with 1280 x 800 or 1440 x 900 resolutions with nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M 128 MB GPU or Intel GMA X3100.
Regarding WLAN; good old a/b/g is there but also some of them with Intel 4965AGN.
Firewire is listed by some and not by others, I would presume this will be there as a standard feature.

Hope that helps some.

It's called tabook although I'm not sure why it hasn't been updated with these already.

I am aware of tabook but asking the same question of why it has not been updated yet.

I like that they've improved the rollcage (added for the lid aswell), reduced noise and heat, and the specs sound good.

But. DVI and WSXGA are must-haves.
And those jacks in front..

Up until now, neither T61 or R61 has been mentioned on Lenovo in Japan.

several german webshops mention a t61 14w with wsxga+ resolution, but no exact specs are available. I hope this is true (would be the only reason I would possibly choose a t61w over a x61s if the latter won't be available w/ sxga+).

Some of these webshops, as far as descriptions go, are as reliable as "chocolate teepots". Firstly they mention the ND218GE which isn't in the list of models announced for Europe - so where's it coming from? Secondly there are not detailed datasheets available - why not. Thirdly the tabook doesn't state there is a wsxga+ display option. Fourthly one of the shops says 1 week delivery - that's pretty incredible at the moment concidering the official announcement was yesterday.

I just called one of the shops and they couldn't tell me if the TP had wireless or bluetooth they just said I should look on the Lenovo website or call Lenovo - it's not on the Lenovo website, I looked beforehand. I've even done a worldwide search of the site - nothing - and google also has nothing.

Something doesn't seem to be quite right here

Well I am afraid I must eat a little humble pie here :(

I've just found out that the TP advertised on the sites will be available :D

EDIT:

I forgot to add: (copied from a lenovo announcement letter dated 9.May)

ThinkPad T61 ND218xx 7664 18G
(14.1-inch SWXGA+ TFT,
Bluetooth wireless technology,
Integrated Fingerprint Reader,
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7300,
nVidia 128MB,
120GB / 5400rpm, DVD Recordable,
1GB, Intel PRO/Wireless WiFi 4965AGN,
4 cell battery, IEEE 1394,
1GB Ethernet,
Microsoft Windows Vista Business 32)

That's good news for those that want the display, but it still isn't in the tabook :?

As far as I can see, from the models announced in Europe the ND111xx and ND113xx have 6-Cell Batteries.
