Show and Go or how do you clean you dream...

I am interested in keeping my Thinkpads looking new. If I use them they of course get scuffed and bluffed. How do you manage to keep the screen and the composite cover looking brand new? I used a soft towel with plain water on the screen to clear some marks. This seems to leave streaks though.

I picked up a used T43p that smelled like an ash tray. I am airing it out now. I used Windex on a paper towel to clean the surface debris but the composite cover still has marks.

What do you do?

Use a 50-50 alcohol wipe, and it cleans everything (LCD/Lid/plastics).

I use the same, a lint free cloth with a homemade solution of 50% tap + 50% isopropyl alcohol. Followed by a dry cloth for the LCD.

My dream is a clean machine...

Another tip that isn't in the FAQ: For removing the scuffs/scratches from the rubberized coating on the screen lid & bottom tray use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. This was suggested to me a while back and it works wonders. Obviously, do not use it on the LCD as it is abrasive and has some caustic chemicals in it.

You use the Mr Clean on the plastics? Or are you referring to the rubberized paint on the 770's, 600's ? Or the composite LCD covers?

Rubberized casing, although I'm sure you could use it on the plastics without a problem too.

Those things are fairly robust. Unless your Thinkpad is really really filthy, one should make it.

Just watching my recording of the USGP from last Friday. There was a segment in the Red Bull pit area/garage. There are ThinkPads there. Looks like quite a few. I see some wide screen T60's. Very cool.
