Look at loop around the protruding battery. :?

Leather is quite a heavy material, isn't it?

Besides OT:
Sometimes I wonder if the battery sticking out at the back, is there intentionally
as a supporting surface/bearing in order to compensate for the centre of gravity
located too far towards the rear.

The loop around the battery is the final straw, IMO. It's terrible.

Even with vent cutouts at the bottom, I'd never want the battery covered like that. It means, of course, that it is just a removable covering, and there's point in that with sleeves, cases and shells in existence.

The Yoga does look better after all...

It took years of old world craft... to take some cow skin and glue it to the back of a bog standard thinkpad, I think not.

Again, it's already been established that is the Lenovo "Yoga" concept laptop from years ago.

I really wish sites would stop using that. It's confusing the hell out of everyone.

That's "Yoga", a conceptual model not a production model. It has been confirmed directly by David Hill on his Lenovo blog that Yoga is not the Thinkpad Reserve Edition.

The more I think about it, this more ridiculous this is to me. If someone bought me an X61 with a similar leather cover like this. I bet the first thing I would do after opening the box is to remove the leather from the machine...

I think that blog is a spoof - but the name on that leather cover does say "Steven P Jobs"!

Lenovo´s Thinkpad development team should be thinking of producing more cutting edge technological pieces and not fancy leather covered conventional machines. What market segment are they thinking will buy such products ? ... Paris Hilton and her gang?

I'm sure the hardware and software design teams are separate from whatever team works on the Reserve Edition. And if Lenovo has enough customers asking for a Reserve Edition, I see nothing wrong with giving it to them. Standard ThinkPads are not going away ...

Certainly not. I could imagine to get me one with this leather. Currently I am using a Samsonite hard sleeve, which looks almost exactly like that reserve edition when my thinkpad is in it and it's open.
I could just drop the sleeve. It would be nice to have that leather cover as an add-on accessory for other thinkpads (e.g. T4x series)

From the looks of the machine, it looks like the cover is solid throughout the bottom. So assuming it is thick, high quality leather, the standard ventilation system would not work well. Doubtful you could just take a real leather sleeve like this and put it on another ThinkPad - maybe they could make one designed allow the existing ventilation systems to work?

That count down sucks. Originally the count down shoud be ending on 13th June. I went to the website that morning it said it "will be revealed today". That night I went to the website again and it said it "will be revealed in 1 day"...

Who knows, maybe later tonight you go check it it would say it will be revealed in 10 days.

I sincerely hope that it is not the ugly thing showed on engadget...

Once again and for the last time... where do you Lenovo´s developing team are heading? Don´t you read the customers voice expressed on this forum?

WE DON´T WANT FANCY APPENDS WE VALUE HIGH TECH IMPROVEMENTS... REMEMBER THE DESIGN GOLDEN RULE: " FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION" ... THUS APPEAREANCE IS WELLCOME AT A SECOND LEVEL OF PRIORITY...

Well, what do you think is it the message to the markets within the launch of the Special Edition (aka. X61 in leather case) ?... To build a new brand image of an exclusive piece that you will desire to get? To show that the machines you´ve gotten are really unique hardware pieces that all of you Thinkpaders should be happy to own even if you have to stay for months in the witing line?

I am not going to spend 3 grand to buy a leather case and a door to door maintenance service... would be happy with a well built and reliable machine that don´t need to go to any workshop... as it is the case with the sturdy and nice T60 i have now. (fingers crossed just in case...)

What crawled up your butt and died? Is there a reason you've posted 3 times in a row flaming this product?

We get it, you don't like the idea! :?

Think Vebra

#58 Post by snife » Tue Jun 19, 2007 7:15 am

Like i've said before - you have to think like Vebra is to mobile phones.

Would I pay 5000 for a thinkpad wrapped in leather with better support - NO! Would I pay 5000 for a cheap Nokia wrapped in leather and metal with better support - NO! but there are plenty of people who do so I think they will easily sell the limited quantity to the 'more money than sense' and 'look at me' crowd.

Much of these sales will be pure profit for Lenovo which can only be a good thing for the future of ThinkPads.

Nah not SXGA+ - thinkpadreserve.com has the specs now and it is the UltraLight XGA screen.
