Acronis is awesome

Acronis is awesome. It truly saved my butt and was barely even using it, so I feel compelled to get up here and gush about it.

My original 100GB@7200 drive on my T60 crashed and I had not yet backed up since my baseline when I bought the machine 4 months ago.

I had one bad sector that was preventing boot. I popped my Acronis disk into the DVD drive and booted. It recognized my USB external drive, and faithfully copied everything off both partitions of the burnt drive except the 5 or so files that were affected by the bad sector. Luckily they were vended program files, not my documents.

Lenovo sent me the replacement overnight. Acronis restored my baseline and then I was able to copy all my data files from the post-crash-desperation backup to the new drive.

Not only that, the baseline backup of my main partition was only saved on the other partition on the burnt drive. The best part was that I did not even have Acronis installed! I made my baseline by booting from the Acronis CD and backing up to the other partition.

Worth every penny.
