battery health color code

#1 Post by pianowizard » Mon Jul 09, 2007 3:29 pm

I just bought a used 6-cell battery for my R50p. According to Battery MaxiMiser, its current capacity is 29.61 Wh, 62.3% of the design capacity of 47.52 Wh. That sounds pretty good to me, but the battery health color is yellow, so I'm a little surprised.

Does anyone know the precentage ranges for green, yellow and red?

The percentages vary with different versions of the battery monitor software.. The same battery may be in the (barely) green in a different machine.

Well yeah, 62% is rather low so that would be clasified as fair in my book also. I'm at 46% in my 6 Cell and that's red so time for a new battery soon

That same battery showed as fair in my T41. I have a 9 cell in that same machine that is at 45% and is green. Not sure if any of this matters as long as it holds a charge and lasts for as long as expected. If you decide you don't like the battery I will take it back, no questions asked.

I just reconditioned this battery and its full charge went up to 30.71 Wh or 64.6% of the design capacity! But the color is still yellow.

Harry, you're such a nice guy! I am very happy with this battery. Remember that I just needed something with more than 40% charge, and I was willing to pay up $30. This is much more than 40%, and cost me less than $30!

I'd expect it to be yellow when it's below 2/3 of the capacity. Same behavior is observed on my T42 battery.

color state vs capacity

#7 Post by paftaf » Tue Jul 24, 2007 6:38 pm

hello,

I think that the state colr is not only related to the capacity.

I have a X40 with the 8 cell battery.
It was 62Wh when new. It is now 26Wh.

That's about 42% of the original capacity, but the state is still "Green".

regards.

Dont know if this helps but it's some info anyway...
I have A22P.The battery shows Full charge capacity:45.29Wh OF Design capacity:58.32Wh .
It only has a cycle count of 85 and is showing Green.
I use the laptop on battery for about 15min's , all is fine.Gets to about 80% and than drops to less than 5% and one min later shuts down.
So this battery has the #'s to show it "looks" good but i can only get about 15 min's out of it.

And my R51e's battery was in the ~52% area and still green.

(It went red once it hit 47%, though...)

The condition color depends on three factors (I think), how many cycles, the date of first use, and current charge capacity. If you have very few cycles, but the full charge capacity is badly degraded and the battery is only a year old, it is going to give you red. If you have many cycles, had the battery for three years or more, and the capacity is degraded somewhat, but is still an acceptable value, then the color may be yellow or even green.

Stargate199, I think you're right. Hmm, sounds like my battery is degrading fast!
