ThinkPad Protection Plan
ThinkPad Protection Plan
I had planned on just ordering just the "3 year depot 9x5 Next Business Day" but that was not an option on the T61p 14.1 Lenovo site when I ordered (now it is an option). Instead I ordered the "3 Year Depot Upgrade with 3 Year ThinkPad Protection".
What does the ThinkPad Protection cover? After owning around six ThinkPads, I have never had a problem with damage. If there was some sort of cosmetic damage, would the plan cover repair of that if there was no functional damage. I am thinking of trying to change to just the 3 year depot warranty and getting a refund of the $160 difference since I just received the T61p last week.
The other question is the Lenovo Experts Chat and Live Telephone services. The telephone support I have received many times over the years from IBM EasyServe and its progeny has always been superb and one of the reasons I have kept buying ThinkPads. Why would one want to add the Lenovo Experts Service for an extra charge when the telephone warranty technical support is so good. Thanks

I'd love to have done that for my now useless thinkpad r40
Let me tell you this. Youprobably don't need it for the T or Z or X series.
But if you're getting the R series, GET IT!
Actually the costs for the protection service trades off with the additional cost to buy T
& T is so much lighter & easier to carry & more durable.
I'm not joking!
Currently my R40 is as good as dead b/c I can't move it around slightly or else
the power cord stops charging my computer. It takes many minutes - hours adjusting the cord (something's wrong with my power input)
And I can't fix it b/c it's directly connected to motherboard.

Sir, the things you mentioned are covered under warranty, Thinkpad protection plan is merely an accidental coverage.ThinkPad R wrote:..........snip....Currently my R40 is as good as dead b/c I can't move it around slightly or else the power cord stops charging my computer. Well, I know that but there are other reasons
-
the screen hinge on R40 is so much weaker - it rattles after a year or so while T40 & X & Z screen hinges remain strong even after several years.
Especially on the new ones, you can feel this comprehensive durability on those hinges.
And the R series screen flexes & the entire body squeaks a bit when you lift from one side.
