Is my laptop eligible for Warranty?

#1 Post by Diehard » Tue Sep 18, 2007 7:29 am

I bought a used Z61t on eBay, and just found down that the serial + type number label at the bottom of the laptop had been removed.

Using the laptop, I can check the serial and type number. It still have more than 2 years warranty. I also have the receipt, but now I wondering if my laptop is still eligible for warranty?

I have asked the seller and he's called Lenovo. they said that as long as the item's still in warranty and I can prove of ownership, it's still OK! I have no idea if the seller has told me the true.

Please anyone who has any information regard my question tell me. I have posted some topics, but no one's answered me even though there are my true problem and I have read many articles to find my own answers before posting!

Thanks,

Call Lenovo yourself and ask :). I think the seller is telling you the truth.

Go to Lenovo Warranty Lookup and enter your ThinkPad's model and serial-number (as you already know, it should have been printed on the label on the bottom of the ThinkPad, otherwise use the "Access IBM" button and and see the System Information there... I also believe that you can find this information if looking in the BIOS, but I can't remember this for sure) - then you'll have the answer!

You don't tell if you bought your ThinkPad in on eBay in Europe or abroad (e.g. in the USA, and then had it sent to Germany), but if you bought it in another country it may, or it may not, be covered by IBM's/Lenovo's international warranty service (IWS). To check if covered internationally or not, go to International warranty service (IWS) and enter your model there.

... and, as you have learned for yourself by now, it is of course always a good idea to investigate such questions before buying an used item, rather than after...

Best regards,

Johan

Thanks guys!

I've not called Lenovo because my German's suck :), and the laptop is from the US.

To Johan:
Thanks for your information, but I have known it before:) . My question was different.

Based on previous experiences on eBay; 99% of the time they WILL NOT email the serial number and sometimes when they do...it is not the real thing!

I try to buy from people that have a "long track record" but that has backfired as well (the post was deleted from this site).

The thread wasn't deleted. It was just moved out of the public view for reasons that weren't a reaction to your posting but, instead, to some of the responses you received.
