Thinkpad 15th Anniversary live webcast (PICs)

#1 Post by own6volvos » Wed Oct 03, 2007 9:46 am

Figured out of most website you guys would be most interested in this. A site that I am a part of (NotebookReview) is partnering with Lenovo to provide a live webcast of this event. Listed below are the various details of this event, including contest to win a Thinkpad Reserve edition notebook (that big ole wallet thing  )

Image Image

What? Lenovo and NotebookReview.com will present the ThinkLive live video webcast celebrating the 15th anniversary of the ThinkPad. We'll be taking a look at older ThinkPad models -- some of which were sold, and some of which never did quite make it onto shelves. Then we'll see how the current ThinkPad models have built upon and improved from the way things were. At the end of the ThinkLive event we'll invite people to submit via email any ThinkPad related questions they might have. For those that register and watch, be it live or later on, you will be automatically entered to win a ThinkPad Reserve notebook in a drawing that will occur at the end of the month.

When? October 10th at 2:00 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. GMT). If you happen to have work during this hour, we'll archive the video so you can watch it later of course.

Where? Register here and you'll get access to the video cast page location and an email providing the link to it

How? All you'll need is a web browser and Real Player to watch the event. After registering for ThinkLive there will be instructions and a system test to see if your computer is ready-to-go for watching the video.

Why? We'll give three reasons for why you should register and watch: 1) So you can win a $5,000 ThinkPad Reserve leather clad notebook. If you register and watch, then you're entered for the drawing that will occur at the end of this month. 2) ThinkPads have been around for 15 years and not once did the black color change, the sheer consistency is worth celebrating. 3) We're doing this Live, so anything could happen!

MOD EDIT: Picture warning added.

Since this event is hosted by NBR so following are a few things that would be done/shown live by specialized expertise from lenovo.
In celebration of the ThinkPad's 15th Annivesary, join us tomorrow at ThinkLive where Lenovo will demonstrate a T-series notebook being dropped on the floor. But only after we pour water on the ThinkPad while it's turned on.

We told you about the ThinkLive 15th Anniversary event last week and the fact you can win a $5,000 exlusive Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve notebook by registering. But what other reasons do you have for tuning in? Don't worry, we won't be just lighting the candles on an Anniversary cake and clapping, here's a rundown of what you'll see during ThinkLive if you register to watch:

-We'll reveal the first design prototype of a ThinkPad. This has never been seen publically, only behind closed curtains.

-We'll take a look at the famous ThinkPad 701C, better known as the "Butterfly" notebook that has an expanding keyboard..

-The ThinkPad Reserve notebook with its leather coat will be on hand for a cameo

-Want to see the insides of a ThinkPad? We'll have a naked ThinkPad with all of its insides showing and take a look at the internal roll-cage.

-We'll get destructive by pouring water onto the keyboard of a ThinkPad while it's turned on to demonstrate the the spill protection capabilities

-After dousing the ThinkPad with water, we'll drop it on the floor (while turned on) for good measure to demonstrate the hard drive protection and sturdy build of the ThinkPad.
If you can't make the webcast event live, you can of course watch it after the event so long as you register. The drawing for the ThinkPad Reserve notebook will take place on November 2nd and the winner will be announced on November 5th. Just make sure to register to be included in this competition. Below is all of the information for the when and where of this live video webcast event.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

OK, that's just pretty darn funny - they posted it but not in the Lenovo forum where (think about this) Lenovo users would be hanging out!

Just watched the complete show a few minutes ago. Interesting demo of the liquid channels through the system :) .

Him dropping that T61 let me drop my jaw wondering what would happen to my T43 (which has taken its fair share of beating already) and think: me wants a T61. I'll just have more careful...

Yeah, I hope that some from this forum wins!!

I cringed everytime that Matt picked up the Thinkpads with one hand by the LCD, with as much as we spend time telling people to handle them with two hands...

The lack of damage from the drop and spillage didn't startle me...

I just finished watching the taped show. I wish it could be longer.

I wonder when Lenovo will introduce SSD's into their Thinkpad line. Now that would be one MAJOR upgrade. I also wish Lenovo would bring back the flexview displays sometime in the future, or offer an external Thinkpad branded external flexview display.

Me too...

But he seems to be the one that "destroys" them; so maybe he is used to treating them like that?

My post to them: (it was almost 3am so a little tired..made minor changes in spelling here)

Well, the “ThinkLive” event was not to be…
I guess they made it “OK” by posting something…
99.99999999999999999% of what was mentioned was nothing that most of us don’t know. The other .01% covered things that were not answered anyways…

I HOPE LENOVO WILL NOT “retire; lay-off; loose; drop; zap, etc.” OUR ENTRY INTO THE CONTEST LIKE THEY DID WITH THE “FREE PEN” thing… (Can’t say that notebookreview.com initiated ALL THIS!)

YEAH! I am still BITTER on that PEN one.

In my opinion“marketing” gimmick! If they can’t figure out who signed for the “free pen” I DO NOT have high hopes that the list is accurate on the “Heritage”…

NO PEN
NO “ThinkLive” (LIVE) event
Waiting for the next “OOPS”…

HAPPY 15TH ThinkPad!!! And Thank You IBM…and let’s hope that Lenovo can continue on the footsteps…maybe they miss-understood the “Surprise” part…

“The history of design at IBM is the history of innovation and hard work. Innovation distinguishes the leader from the follower, never satisfied with what has been, but with what will be. It is the driving force of the creative spirit, sensitive to change and the changeless. It focuses not only on what is right, but also on what is exceptional. Surprise, not predictability, is its hallmark”
