Thinkpad Warranty

#1 Post by Diehard » Thu Nov 15, 2007 8:03 am

I've an used laptop from US. The Type number is eligible for IWS (Germany included).
A friend of mine just called to Lenovo in Germany to check about the warranty. They said they only cover it if I have the original receipt!??

I bought it from ebay, and so I can only have PayPal receipt and the receipt of the store which sold me the laptop. No Original Receipt.

Can anyone tell me what do you think? I also have other new ThinkPads bought from eBay, and only with PayPal receipt. All of them are not covered by Lenovo???

Help anyone!

POP (Proof of Purchase) is required in some countries prior to performing IWS service on a machine, I don't know about Paypal receipt but you can present importation (VAT receipt) documents as a proof for sure.

Thanks ryengineer. You are always the first!

I've also spent time to read this one http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-59390
It says that only China will ask something like that. I was not asked to pay Import Tax for some of my Thinkpads.

Can't believe Lenovo in Germany! If you want service, just tell them the Type and serial number. If they check it still under warranty period and eligible for IWS, they will go for you. However, If you ask them information about buying stuff in US, they will act differently.

Try calling only when a problem arises and try not to ask IWS question from the Support, POP is required in few countries but is not mandatory; many customers lose it too.

Good Luck!
