Retractable antenna on T23 (as in TP Reserve Edition)

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Mon Jan 07, 2008 2:03 pm

Seeing that retractable antenna on this super-priced TP Reserve Edition, could I use the antenna from e.g. a transistor radio and thus improve reception on my (home-wired wifi) T23?

A good antenna needs to have a length of n*lamba/2 of the wave length that your transmitter is using. FM Radio waves have a frequency of 88-109 Mhz with long antennas, while WLAN uses microwave spectra, somewhere at 2.4Ghz at 802.11b. So the antenna should be way shorter!
That's why the build in antenna are quite short. Now if you take a very high n for antenna gain you can improve your signal reception strength.
Why don't you order the Reserve antenna part at Lenovo and build it into your display frame (if there is any space left)?

my X61 has a retractable antenna and it's not the super-priced reserve edition -- it's just a regular-priced X61. ;)   fyi, the antenna is for WLAN service, not WIFI.

check the X6x HMM for parts.   page 184 shows exactly what's on my X61.

I thought that was for WWAN, no?
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Uhmm... this bird, I mean, this eagle... your logo under your name.
Are you sure you want to use it?

It is forbidden in Germany and Europe since 1945.
There used to millions of those on the Reichsmark and enlarged on every major representative administration. It is the old sign of the German-Austrian Reich from 1908-1945.

What nonsense!
Erik's eagle is of a different shape to start with.
The old Reichsmark Adler/Eagle looks like this: http://www.muenzecke.de/angebot/bilder/57b.jpg
That very same eagle is also used on the current 1€ coin.

Don't start that here. It's the logo for a snowboard company.
