ETA: T62
Does anyone have any idea or informed estimate on when the T62 might be announced and when it'll be internationally available. The T61 has come down in price on TopSeller models quite a lot here in the UK, and I'm looking to buy this summer for university - I'd rather put my money in a newer model as I can't afford an X300.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

I hate to say it, you are going to have a very long wait for a T62. There is not going to be a T62, instead there will be the T400 and T500 being respectively 14 W and 15,4 W. A little more can be found here.

Ok, yes, I forgot about that rather large hitch to my logic. How long are we going to have to wait for these rebranded models to come out?

I just talked to a Lenovo rep and the T61 will be around for a while. The Penryn refresh will tide us over until around September, at which point the T400/T500 will burst onto the scene.
I also got to check out the X300... it's sweet! The keyboard is pushed back all the way to the hinges to make room for the UtraNav, and the battery is accessible from the bottom and sticks out a little, but I'd say the laptop is still thinner than a regular Macbook or an old X-series. I got confirmation that the optical drive can be swapped out for a second battery but not for a second hard drive.

Thank-you, so there will be new machines around Summer/September. I'll probably be waiting to get the Penryn refresh then, after the initial reviews comeback of course.

The Penryn refresh is already out... it's the T8100, T8300, and T9300 on the config pages. My guess is that you'll lget slightly better performance and battery life. The chipset stays the same.Dead1nside wrote:Thank-you, so there will be new machines around Summer/September. Speaking of battery life... I forgot to say that he said the T61 14" widescreen will be getting a 9-cell soon. Which just may sway me back from the 15.4" camp...

9-cell really? That's what I've been shouting about since the T61s were revealed. Brilliant. Cheers.

I didn't ask, but I've seen elsewhere that they will. Also, as in the current X-series, it's a standard 1.8" model, but that may have been obvious already.jayk wrote:Did you ask if they plan to offer the X300 with a mechanical hard drive option in place of the expensive flash drive?thefultonhow wrote:I also got to check out the X300... it's sweet!

1.8" HDD may not be the end of world. I was just looking at the new Dell tablet's specs, and saw that they have a 120GB 1.8" 5400rpm HDD option.thefultonhow wrote:I didn't ask, but I've seen elsewhere that they will. If that is true, then 1.8" still has a lot of life left.pianowizard wrote:1.8" HDD may not be the end of world. iPods come with 160GB which is 2 platters?
So 120GB might be a new high-density 1 platter.
Then I assume 2 platter 240GB with 5400 rpm should be on the market soon. They should not be much slower than a 4200rpm 2.5" drive, if calculate the spin velocities correctly.
At least they are way cheaper than SSD drives.

Hmm.... sounds interesting. I think I'll be getting the SSD, but I'm going to wait a bit for the rush to calm down (biggest rush in lenovo histroy, based on what i hear), so hopefully they'll release a 128 GB model in the 3-4 months after release.
BTW, thefultonhow, you managed to check out the X300...BUT DIDNT GET US ANY PICS! Fail. Talk to you're guy, see if we can get some, eh?

Sorry, I wasn't sure if I could do that. The X300 hasn't even been announced yet, right? So I got very lucky just getting a sneak peek.bobdsmith wrote:BTW, thefultonhow, you managed to check out the X300...BUT DIDNT GET US ANY PICS! Fail. Talk to you're guy, see if we can get some, eh?
BTW, the rep confirmed the other specs that are on the site that's been posted elsewhere on this forum.

With a good sale and a coupon or two, it's fairly easy to get >40% off on the open market.thefultonhow wrote:but we get a special discount that's on the order of 40% for most of our Lenovos, so I'm not sure how cheap it's going to be on the open market.

Oops, sorry, mods. I edited the whole thing out because I'm pretty sure I was wrong about the 2 GHz chip, and everyone knows about the SSD already.thefultonhow wrote:Note from Moderator: Discussions of prices for specials programs like EPP are expressly prohibited in the Rules.

The whole X300 discussion needs to be taken to the X300 thread at http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=56967 anyway.

It's Dell. $10 it's a two-platter.beeblebrox wrote:iPods come with 160GB which is 2 platters?
So 120GB might be a new high-density 1 platter.
And if someone did have a 240 GB 5400 rpm 1.8" drive coming to market soon, it would have been announced half a year ago for the publicity. The standard-height 2.5" 500 GB Samsung was announced a while ago and we won't see it until March. Then I assume 2 platter 240GB with 5400 rpm should be on the market soon.
I'd love it if it was true, but it just isn't.
edit: I am impressed that they made a 5400 rpm 1.8" drive in the first place, though. I guess it's natural progression to smaller formats getting better and better.
