3 year warranty expired within a year!

#1 Post by berlin » Sat Mar 29, 2008 3:48 am

I need my X60s repaired, but my 3 year warranty expired in just a year!!

When I checked it says,

Status: Expiration date: Location:
Out of warranty 2007-03-27 UNITED STATES

I was able to get it repaired on 5/18/2007 and I still have the shipping label.

Now they're claiming that they have no record of it. I gave a reference # but I was told that they don't keep records that far back!

On the September 2007, I was able to request recovery CDS for free because my laptop was still under warranty.

I still have the envelope and packing slip!!

What to do? I don't have proof of purchase or the warranty papers they're asking!

I am glad the warranty expiration issue has worked itself out.

Very strange indeed.

my problem just got bigger.

my warranty is still not in the system, but my laptop was already sent for repair.

i just found by accident that another laptop has the same serial number as mine... different machine no but same serial no. i'm not sure if this is normal but i'm curious to see what will happen.

problem is that i can't prove that the other laptop isn't mine!! then again, it's just impossible to buy two laptops with the same serial number!! That's like winning the lottery.

Sorry to hear of your big trouble.

How did you find out that your laptop has the same serial number as another different laptop?

Berlin,

While extremely uncommon, it is possible for a laptop of another series to have the same serial number.

They will be uniquely identifiable - one from another if the full 7 digit model and type are used in conjunction with the serial number.

I have never seen a case of duplication for any CTO models.

Can you send me a PM with your service case number, and your system model and serial number?

how did I found out about the duplicate serial?

When I checked online for the box status. Nothing showed up again. But when I typed my machine number, I saw 1706 and 1702 appeared in the auto-complete option. 1702 didn't work so tried 1706 and wallah there it is.

I don't know my machine numbers by heart (this is my 4th thinkpad) so must've typed 1706 instead of 1702. I thought the model number was F2U, but it's actually F6U. I got the 6 and 2 backwards. And Easy Serve tracking doesn't ask for your model no.

I don't remember the technician asking me for my machine number. I must've given it to him or my serial simply matched with a 1706 on record and he assumed that that was it.

I asked about my warranty not showing up on the website. And I was told not to worry about it and that it was probably just a system error and I have to work that out with Lenovo and not with them.

Berlin,

I didn't say I couldn't help you.

The serial number you provided is valid for two different systems - 1702 and 1706.

1702 was sold without a warranty through a liquidation.

1706 has a 3 warranty. (it also has a different suffix model number)

The service case number you provided is logged against the 1706 system, so I don't know if that was a records mistake by service, or if the customer information is for the other systems owner.

I've PM'd you again with my email, and can get you some help. Please bear with me.

Thanks.

I would highly recommend that you take the details of your purchase and warranty off line with Mark. Do you really want these out in public?
