Uhm !!! Forcing Lenovo Live Search ??

#1 Post by AndrewCarey » Thu Apr 24, 2008 8:15 pm

Hola,

I have alot of IBM / Lenovo workstations & laptops. Not mine personally, but with the company I work for in Toronto.

Recently, I've had alot of complaints about the 15" T61 widescreens as just being to big and heavy to move around between our locations in North America.

Myself, I'm using a 2.5 year old 14" high rez T43 that is perfect. But I decided to test a 14" T61 myself for a week and see what I thought.

So I configure a laptop for myself, not using our custom image, but with the preload.

Lenovo in some mind bending and annoying decision is forcing Lenovo Live as a homepage. I change the default page to google, restarted the machine and blamo "Lenovo Live" comes back !!??

After installing Firefox, I was numb when I noticed that they are even forcing it in Firefox ????

This is mind blowing to me, what moron decided that I must use that page and then scripted it accordingly??

I'm beside myself......

Check around and in this forum.

Access Connections hijacks the home page (which is usually why it recurs). Going into Access Connections and either unchecking "override home page" or checking it and put in your own home page generally fixes the problem. Then the settings in IE Options will stick. ... JDH

I suppose it can be thought of as a "feature". My understanding of Access Connections (I don't use it) is that you can have profiles pre-defined for various types of network connections; say work, home, Starbucks, etc. and have each one configured with the proper net connection (static or dynamic IP, WiFi password), default printer and as you have found out, home page. I'd have to agree that those first two things are very desirable but I still can't wrap my head around the browser home page deal :) .

Access Connections works well, we do use it because we do subnet our different plants. We have up to 15 different locations and with people moving around, running out of IP ranges is a real possiblility.

I just really didn't think it was proper that I had to spend any of my time researching a solution.

My Lenovo Rep is already being beatup over the Vista vs WinXP Pro deadline coming up.
