New Deluxe Thinkpads! Ivory keyboards, Diamond Trackpoints!

#1 Post by beeblebrox » Tue Jun 10, 2008 8:18 am

Working in Europe really broadens my mind.

Here is a German company turning Thinkpads into State-of-the-Art Luxury objects.

The Al-Waleed edition?

> Thinkpads in ebony or mahogany wood.
>Pure gold or ivory keyboard and trackpoints in either red rubins (would be my choice) or diamonds ( the girlfriend's favorite)

have fun...
www.singulum.com

I was told that here all these rich summer tourists from Dubai and Abu Dabi instinctivly write a blank check when they see them in the store display.

Yeah, right!
even Mr. Abramowich with all his billions would not be able any more to get a Flexview.

By the way, I had a few pieces in wood (actually got them on Fleabay). A mouse and a keyboard, made be a firm called SWEDX.

They were very nice, I wanted to built a little media server for my grand parents' living room and the computer should hav had the same birch wood design.

Unfortunately, the wood casings were fine, but the electronics underneath was worst, cheapest stuff ever seen.

But with Thinkpads I guess Singulum is going the safe way here...

Imagine you have to ship it to Lenovo Solectron for repairs.
They always exchange the worn-out trackpoint, as far as I know. Here you should take some attention.

the diamond is way over the top..
just pretty but mostly useless for really using..
you need traction with a trackpoint, not shiny sparkly trackpoints that a users finger will slide off..
the rest is nice..

Not to mention the scratches on the LCD :D The ivory keyboard looks nice.

Bill, you should see it that way:
if Swarovski covered iPhones (a.k.a Paris Hilton Edition) sell really well today, why should there not be a market for high-end Thinkpads.
I would not mind getting this thing for christmas and leave it on display, just next to my golden iPod mini (the Posh Beckham edition).

However, you are right. The diamond is wrong. It should be a red ruby trackpoint.

Yes, can I have black ebony wooden frame, ivory keys, gold or platinum function keys, and a red ruby trackpoint?

Anybody find any hint of pricing? Are these obscenely expensive ($10-20K) or really obscenely expensive ($25K+) :D

As usual, if you are asking for the price you are not their target customer.
Ever wondered why in Tiffany or Dior store displays there never is a price label?

I can imagine a really offensive price: The green LEDs are made of translucent green Smaragds and the ThinkVantage button would be a blue Sapphire.

But Tiffany's will discretely tell you while your (wife:girlfriend:mistress:boyfriend) browses elsewhere in the store.

Those who inherit wealth never ask the price. We captains of industry who work hard for our riches always negotiate the very best price on our diamonds and Ferraris :D

(OK - so I actually paid sticker for my Prius - but I can dream...)
