Thinkpad Battery Life tips

#1 Post by mikesugar » Tue Jun 17, 2008 12:52 pm

Here are a couple of battery life tips that I've learned from the school of hard knocks:

Close IE windows with Flash.
Flash movies can be CPU intensive to compute the animations. If you leave an IE window open with a Flash movie on it, even if the window is minimized or hidden, It can use over 50% of your CPU, which will heat it up and dramatically cut battery life.

Close Search results windows in Outlook, Outlook Express, and Explorer
These search windows continue to monitor the search target and ctriteria to add new found results. This chews up CPU and battery life.

Monitor Task Manager Processes and Performance Tabs.
Even though you thought you closed the app and nothing shows up in the Applications tab, programs can hang and spin the CPU until you kill the process. The only way to see this is in the Processes and Performance tabs.

Thanks,
I have been storing my laptop with the battery out and have noticed consistent battery life for the most part ever since I got my laptop.
