Type/Model Ordered, how much would it affect shipping date?

#1 Post by sethstorm » Sun Jan 02, 2005 4:51 am

Well, it's been at least a week and IBM seems to continue to move the final shipping date - which is over 3 weeks from this http://24.123.72.245/laptop/t42p.html censored "print view" of the final order - and I'm wondering if some configurations just by the model number itself could affect the shipping date. Note that system ship date is quoted for the 19th for a 12/24/04 order (today, it's 1/25/05) versus the quoted "2 weeks plus shipping".

I've heard of others cutting it close and getting theirs in, but there seems to be at least one other case of an 2373HVU being delayed, yet other models so far go through faster than quoted. I'm just wanting to know what could (since the holidays didnt stop those other T series models) delay some specific models over others despite many common parts. I'm not trying to be impatient, but it seems that there might be some link between very similar models and very different shipping times.

I ordered a 2373HVU on 12/24/04 and the initial estimated ship date was 1/13/05. I was fine with that but to my amazement when I checked the status on 12/30/04 it showed as shipped that day. Sure enough, on 1/3/05 UPS delivered it.

Did you get in on the sale price of $2299? I don't know where that price came from but I'm not complaining - it was a great deal.

Yep, I did on the 24th of December. I just added a few goodies that I never had on my A31p (wireless - to be replaced with a Prism based card, onboard bluetooth - I keep losing the dongles, and a hard disk carrier - it'll save work on opening up the internals). Good news, is that IBM said it's going to be shipped to me on Tue after calling about it. I'd like to know where IBM's getting this info that is different from the website, since it's horribly inaccurate.

I placed an order for a 2373HVU on 12/20/2004, taking advantage of the sale price, $2299. IBM estimated that the shipping date will be 01/03/2005. Guess what, I had the laptop in my hands on 12/26/2004. I was not expecting such quick delivery, considering the shipping from Hongkong.

Amazingly powerful laptop, great price and excellent service by IBM in delivery. :D
