internet question

#1 Post by ranchmom5 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 12:08 pm

Coming to the wisest computer people I know!

My son's T42 does not load internet sites, using Firefox, with any color or special graphics. For instance, on my T42, my gmail page loads with full color while his is simple white background, black print, blue links.

I am thinking that he is missing some kind of download that makes such things visible. Any guesses?

How about if he uses Internet Explorer?
If IE works correctly, then I'd suggest uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling it to see if that cures the problem.
If IE is the same as FF then I'd be suspicious of malware.
I hope this helps.

Tools / Options / Colors (the next to the bottom button). Ensure that "allow pages to choose their own colors..." is checked.

The "allow pages to use their own colors" is already checked.

Yes, IE is the same. How do we find/remove malware?

He has had the laptop since August, but doesn't have much opportunity to use the internet where he lives. He only noticed the extreme difference after being home for the holidays and using my T42. He claims it has always been like this.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

The above link will give you a program you can download to get rid of malware; which includes viruses, spyware, etc.

Try it and see if it makes a difference. If not, we'll have to think of some other suggestions.

I downloaded the malware and it is running as I type this. I am on his laptop right now and finding that nothing loads correctly. On this site, Charlie Chaplin is in the corner, the web title is there in color and the advertising links but nothing else is like it is on mine. This reply page, other than the smilies, is just simple black text, white background, links in blue, but no other color or graphics.

Thanks for the help thus far....will let you know the results after malware is finished.

Malware program showed no problems. I have searched far and wide on the net and have found nothing. Set up another user profile in Firefox to see if that was the problem but no help there....still the same. My conclusion is that background colors, graphics, fonts, etc are not loading and something must be blocking it.

I have considered uninstalling Firefox and reloading but since IE is also doing the same thing, I think the basic problem is within the computer.

Keep the ideas coming!!
